Starcraft and broodwar launch problem (Windows 7)

Hi, I was trying to play starcraft on my toshiba laptop with windows 7 SP1 but the game crashed upon launch and at the part where the blizzard cinematic should appear(instead its just a cloud of pixels on the screen and then the game crashes).

The games work fine on my other computers vista and xp, and I got starcraft 2 working without any problem on windows 7. I tried launching in compatiblity mode, using text edit and the mudlord patch but none of them worked. Any ideas ?

Thanks for your answers

Hi there

Right click on the starcraft.exe in \Program Files\Starcraft. Go to the compatibility tab in properties and tick every box under settings: All of these relate to graphics so tick em all! Do not tick run in compatibility mode though cause then sc won't run can't find a font file somewhere

Creating a duplicate thread would be bending the rules as well. If no one answers, it means no one has any suggestions.

I have virtualized XP in the past to play some old games. StarCraft is well below what would be considered "too intensive" for a VM.

You install it like any other program, and then use a disc or .iso file of Windows XP, for example, to create a virtual computer. It will boot from the CD or file once you set some options, like how much memory to dedicate to the VM (I use 1 GB for XP), and then it installs just like XP always installed...just in a window while your Windows 7 OS is running.

Before we get into any more details, what version of Windows 7 do you have installed?

Push the Windows key + Pause Break.

Will tell whether you're on 32 or 64-bit.

If you have a Program Files (x86) folder, that also means you're on 64-bit.

I just checked my Data Execution Prevention list. Didn't need to add it in there.

StarCraft Brood War runs fine for loooong times and online as well.

I've had original StarCraft since its very own year, 1998. I had to go to Battle.net. Gave it my original CDKEY for a longer Game Key. Then it offers you the BW expansion.

YET, despite the 1.22 gig wait, there is still an official manual update that should be worth the shot. I had to install it, as well as my bud.

So just get the BW one only. Under Expansion.

G'luck.
