Windows 7: L4D has No sound, but I hear other players

so i didnt have to try clearing the sound cache.. i just let steam run the L4D updates and now sound works. but i thought it updated during install, that is why i didnt try that before

All the updates are being made AFTER the installation If you don't turn them off that is Every time you start steam it checks if there are new updates, and if so they're downloaded and applied prior launching the game.

thats the thing, automatic updates was on.. and it does update, and it didn't when I started steam. but then the game updated and went to the bottom of my games list. and after that I could play, but I had other updates already installed as auto update was enabled, so I'm completely lost as to what did it.

I must say tho. L4D is addicting as hell tho
