Interestingly, the fix for the save game CTD bug is not listed, nor is anything in that list seemingly remotely close to the problem. Probably quietly fixed by someone but never made it to the official list :/
Course I have also not heard back from anyone else with the problem about whether 1.4 fixed it for them or not, Bethesda closed the post on their website for a bogus sounding "thread limit reached" at 254 comments. :/
Was so happy it worked last night I didn't spend any more time on the site looking for new threads on the subject though...
You don't think one of these blanket remarks with saving might have covered one of those problems you were having?
Fixed occasional issue where overwriting an existing save would fail
Fixed rare crash with loading saved games
Fixed crashes related to pathing and AI
Although Im loving the game still, Im curious if anyone else has issues later in the game where its just stupid easy??
Im lvl 47 now and nothing seem much of a challenge anymore.
What I mean is this.
Earlier (although slightly funny) Shadowmere killed a group of 4 Forsworn all by himself. I just stood there and watched, and said to myself "Did that really just happen?"
Another example, many times with caves/dungeons etc .. I dont really need to do anything. I can just summon my Daedra Lord and wait until he clears a path for me.
In fact, most of the Dark Brotherhood Questline I done that way.
Just hide, Summon him, shoot 1 arrow and then wait untill everything is dead.
Did you up the game difficulty level to the max yet? If not that might make it a little harder.
Try wielding weaker armor also maybe?
But yeah, you usually become too powerful near that level. Then it becomes mundane.
I'm at level 53 and it's still sounds a little more on the difficult level for me that what you describe there.
Not really... or if so I would have hoped that they would have called out the "large save file CTD issue" as people were calling it on their boards, just to let people know it was fixed if the desc of the true bug cause was seemingly unrelated.
* It happened weather you over wrote or not. (I did have this bug a couple times, it was different, it happened while saving)
* It never crashed when loading a game (for me). It crashes after playing for some time (could be hours if you avoided known bad cells) from games saved after a certain amount of or type of game play. If this is it, the wording on the bug is way off base, and it wasn't that rare...
* Pathing and AI I figured revolved around wonky NPC behavior in game (bad following etc)
From the analasys done by the people having the problem it seemed possibly to be a memory overflow due to a cell having "too many" objects in it (Too many arrows or changed object positions etc)
Entering these formerly bad cells does incur a noticeably large pause now as if the problem is now being detected and cleaned up realtime rather than waiting for possibly non existant garbage collection. So it really does seem like an intentional and working fix.
The closest one I would think would be the removal of ash piles, but I noticed that that does NOT happen on entry to a cell but is probably added to the days long garbage collection (from which it was missing) that normally grabs bodies etc. So I don't think that was it either (I noticed ash piles are still where they have always been in my saves (for now)).
Besides ash piles there are other uncleaned or slow to clean objects like arrows and dropped swords, nirnroot glows etc. I wouldn't be surprised if those were also cleaned up (Why do one and not the others?) but they aren't in the list either. :/ I'll test tonight if the nirnroot glows are taken care of... that's an easy one to detect, I have nuclear sun nirnroots everywhere :)
One thing you can do that's pretty fun...
Strip off all that armor and quest "naked" (Well you can decide on the use of the nude patch or not )
Did that for a while, is some hilarious fun. You with nothing on fighting the armored bad guys and of course still winning in the end. Mages and dragons become difficult without protection. Though you may still just be able to hide and conjure... just say to yourself that you are not going to conjure any more and go at it like a real man, face to face... naked
Yea, Im going to try and up the difficulty. havent tried it yet.
Its still on normal or whatever the default is.
Difficulty change takes effect in-game, so it can't be any easier to switch back and forth.
So, I know I'm so very late to the Skyrim party, but where is the path to High Hothgar? Everywhere I have tried so far never leads me there, and I really don't feel like scaling the mountain, as in not on a path, because it rarely works for me.
