Well, the magic resistance seems to be fixed.
Verified game cache after updating to the patch just for kicks.

Just fought and killed a blood dragon though post 1.3, and it didn't burn up and give it's soul at all. Also had a random CTD.

I thought they were supposed to have fixed the dragon soul thingy back in the 1.2 patch.

Well when I was writing that post that's when the 1.3 patch kicked in so I guess you'll never know if my theory was true. Anyway glad to hear the 1.3 patch seems to have fixed it. And I got a post 1.3 crash as well

Thanks for the news link, it wasn't up when I checked it after my game updated. Glad to see it up now.

About 1 in 5 dragons fails to give me a soul even with the 1.2 patch. I think it's probably just time to start thinking that it's a normal random game event like finding a treasure chest with nothing in it

Speaking of which, something even MORE annoying. I killed a lot of dragons (maybe 14) and never "spent" their souls because I didn't realise you had to for a long time. Well now I do and I can only spend down to 11 souls and then it says I don;t have any more to spend... even though it lists 11. I then kill 3 more dragons and I have 14 and then I spend 3 and I can;t spend a fourth, again back to 11 souls, unspendable :P

Same here. Had accumulated quite a few souls and shouts before I figured out how to actually spend them. They should have made it more obvious IMO.
Or just made it automatic. Learned a shout and had a dragon soul - automatically used the soul to activate the shout.

Although you have to have an equal amount of shouts to spend all those souls on, or you can't spend anymore....because you don't have any shouts learned to spend them on.

You can only spend dragon souls on shouts you have, so for example you have 5 shouts, but 10 souls, you'll only spend 5 souls. On the other hand if you have 5 shouts, but only 3 souls, you'll only be able to use 3 shouts. I don't know how many shouts there are but I currently have 16 and still have 21 souls left.

What you have to do is click on the shout that's greyed out, it will say something to the effect that you have not spent a soul. Click OK, then click "R" than click OK again, you should now have that shout available.

As for dragons giving up their souls, I haven't run into one that didn't giveit up, yet.

lol more obvious? its hard to miss it. unless your like the guys that played witcher 2 and complained that it was too hard.

On a more serious note, any one have any mods? Not just reskins of items but actual mods. I have one that introduces arrow fletching, but it feels like it was always there.

No I have shouts that need activation with a soul, and 11 souls. But it will not let me spend any of the first 11 souls I got on any of the shouts I have not yet activated.

It's probably a save game glitch...

Not if you're playing with an xbox controller. You have to push X to spend the soul. Other buttons normally used are A. Which would just say the soul needs to be unlocked. Yeah, well, it only dawns on you after awhile that you'll need to push X to spend it. How am I going to know? I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

At first I thought certain earned shouts needed a certain amount of souls before one shout could be unlocked. And so on and so on...

    No mods used here.

There certainly are lots of people who are confused by, and complaining about, the shout/soul spend issue. I just looked through the instructions, again, and I'll paste the shout instructions here....

    SHOUTS

Shouts are special combinations of dragon language that produce powerful effects. Press Z to use an equipped shout.

The longer you hold it down, the more words of a shout are used, and the more powerful the shout. You can only have one power or shout equipped at a time.

After using a shout, you must wait before shouting again. Your compass will flash while recharging. When your compass stops flashing, you can shout again.

The individual words of each shout must be learned by finding Word Walls in the world. After learning a word, you must unlock it with a dragon soul before you can use it. Dragon souls are absorbed by slaying dragons.
The problem with that last statement is it doesn't tell you how to unlock a shout - which is the "R" key (PC's using keyboard)

Anyway I found out early when I went to use a shout that wasn't unlocked. I just followed the on-screen instructions and good to go.

I guess a lot of people just assume shouts are automatically available once learned, which we see is not the case.
