Man there's a lot of idiots on that board :/
Will be interesting to see if this helps more than it destabilises the game.
One does not simply just "turn on optimization" in the compiler and ship it out. It greatly lengthens testing and debugging time. Optimisations turned on (and which ones you decide to turn on and at what level, it's considerably more complex than a single check box) can increase code speed significantly but it also significantly increases the chance for program crashing without being given the extra time to properly write/test and debug the optimised code.
Inlining on the XBOX with it's 256 meg of ram? I don't think so... Inlining used indiscriminantly can balloon the exe tremendously (while speeding it up).
Given the real possibility of a rushed release, would that really have been preferable?
Anyway, it would be nice if they would go back and try to optimise the PC port, though for the most part the game runs pretty darn well as it is. I'd rather keep my stability (such as it is) than perform this kind of patch. At least not till I was officilly "done" with the game and just messing with it.
Though also not a good idea then as new user generated content and DLC stuff will eventually be coming down the pike, nice to have a still functioning install when it does :)
