I'm in the middle of it. Storyline, scifi aside - the game mechanics are very much 'old school' FPS - the combat sections are nice and solid. Best of all, no NPC's to 'command'

Since it's an id developed game, the core gameplay feels very reminiscent of the Quake series. See enemy, blast enemy, see bigger enemy, blast bigger enemy with bigger gun :)

And while you may trigger an area that unleashes wave after wave of enemies - they are finite. No COD style 'must progress to checkpoint to stop the limitless enemies shit' which is a welcome change. Much less chance of massacre fatigue.

It's also a 'mini RPG' - ie do side quests, upgrade weapons/armor etc but it's far less 'Stat/perk' intensive than Fallout, Skyrim, Kotor etc. It's very much 'dumbed down' in that regard which makes it a lot more accessible for those who don't really like heavy RPG games.

The driving aspect is okay. It helps break the monotony. Overall, I'm pretty sure there would be parts you'd like and parts you hate. I think the solid FPS style would outweigh the parts you may not like.

    Well, I am convinced...

I am going to see if I can rent it or play it for a few minutes at my friend as I am sure he bought it just cause he buys everything sight unseen

I would advise you to try RAGE first..I have the game...played thru it once..its repeat playability is zero.
The game was a major let down for me. It's a typical Id shooter tho and that parts ok but the story is meh and the ending is bs if in fact it really has one. Textures are rubbish as in theres a lot of lo res stuff.
So ya try it first or wait til it hits the bargain bin. I'm hoping Carmack does a better job of DOOM4 and codes it as a PC game first and ports it to console later.
Lets face it Id/Carmack owe PC players..we bought their games and supported them long before consoles existed.

Everyone OWES the PC players, it is just easier to fools the kids into buying their buggy and dumb down games 1 month at a time, hence, why they all make it for Consoles and then port it to PC... unfortunately for all the rest of us!

I remember the time when the Campaigns used to be vast, long and open world and it paid huge dividends to think before you open fire. I also remember that after you were done with the Campaign, you wanted to go through it again to see if you were able to go at it a different way and once you were done playing it more than twice, you could have the Solo Missions and go at those quiet a few times again.

About the only one who keeps doing that, in a Rambo sort of way is Modern Warfare... the Campaigns are grossly fast paced but at least they give you some sort of consolation prize with the Solo Missions (also fast paced!).

The way I see it, they have a right to market and sell they stuff however they see fit and I also have the right to not buy it or wait a couple of weeks and then spend the 10 to 15 bucks I believe their games are worth.

im a couple of missions into the game, and it feels like ive played it before. because i have (mw2, mw1), the only things i like about these games is that they are action packed and somewhat solid shooters. hell give me a game like halo on the pc and ill play it a million times. but the cod series are fun for 1 run maybe 2.

That's true - I can't really see myself replaying it.

Unlikely - he's all but turned his back on PC gaming as the primary platform. Con$ole$ are where he seems to be at these days

Saw a few snapshots on Gamespot... way to Caricature-Like for my taste. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it sure ain't for me.
