Call Of Duty World At War lock-up (multiplayer only)

what happens is when i launch CoDWaWmp.exe, the splash screen loads, as normal, and then the screen goes black, the computer locks-up, keyboard and mouse unresponsive, i have to reset my computer.

i have looked on many forums, and have tried all of their suggestions, i have set the audio to 24-bit 48000 Hz, and while that fixed the singleplayer (CoDWaW.exe) it did not help the multiplayer, i have also tried removing Treyarch.bik, to no effect, i have also tried every compatibility mode, and it still does not work.

The game did work in windows XP, and i remember i did get it working in windows 7, however i do not remember how i did it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

That might happen if you downloaded and installed drivers for your graphic card via windows update...

It can still make mess, uninstall both drivers and then install only latest ATI drivers.
I had the same issue with CoD W@W...
    Solved it this way...

i looked in the installed updates under control panel -> uninstall programmes, and the ATi Driver is not there, but it is in the Update History under windows update

    I misunderstood you...
Then go to device manager, expand display adapters, right click on graphic card and choose uninstall ( don't install driver if asked), reboot and then install ATI drivers...
