    Installer Crash

I'm using ISOs (and DT Lite) of the full normal version of the game so that I can mod it. But I cant even get the installer to run. I get the midgard autoplay splash screen but when I hit install it just quits and doesn't do anything. I see that it's opening processes, and i've given those processes time, but they dont do anything. I saw that one guy who closed google chrome to fix this prob, i dont have it but i closed my browser and every extranneous process on my computer using the task manager and the problem persists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dxdiag available upon request.

    Thx!

I follow the instructions step by step, and when i run the game, the system can't find the video, a message appears "ERROR: Could not find X:\FF7\movies\logo.avi". I tried copy pasting the movies folder to my computer and reassign with regedit, but the same problem appears. Any advice?

You forgot step 7: Mod it so that it's even more awesome.

[Tutorial] Bootleg Configurator and FF7 Mod Installation

Seriously, the game is super easy to mod and there's a detailed explanation of how at the above site.

Also Step 8: Give your characters rude names for many Lulz.

I don't have that file myself as I got it on Steam. It's cheap there and doesn't require anything special to install.

I did mod it though and that reverts it to an older version without cloud saves and online. Which is a good thing in my mind.

If you can't find a fix for your problem, if nothing else you should be able to get it on Steam and play it that way without any trouble. It would suck to have to buy it again, but if you want to play it that bad and no other solution presents itself...

A protip for Steam in general: Never ever install it into the default folder it wants to go in. Put it outside of Program Files or Program Files X86. Putting Steam in the Program Files or Program Files X86 folder causes all sorts of issues from game access problems to difficulty modding. It's best to put it anywhere outside of those folders.

    Hi,

I actually found that file here: Aali's Custom Graphics Driver | Final Fantasy 7 PC

So I was able to download that, copy it over, and change the screen resolution as outlined in part 4.

Actually, I was able to follow all the steps outlined in the original tutorial, but when I try to run the game from the icon that is created from the FF7music patch, it opens up a splash window with the options to run FF7, configure the music options, or close out. When I click on "run FF7", it brings up a black screen and nothing happens. No music, no graphics, nothing.

I've got the 3 discs mounted on Daemon Tools Lite, so it's not having problems finding the disc images or anything like that. I can't seem to just run the game though.

I'm thinking this has something to do with the mods on the custom graphics driver, but I don't know what's wrong as I followed the instructions. I'm not running an nVidia graphics card, it's just the Intel HD one that comes standard in most laptops nowadays.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

If you decide to mod the game, [or any game for that matter] make sure you backup your unaltered game files. Just copy the FFVII folder and put it somewhere else with a name like 'FFVIIbackup'. If you're looking to save HDD space, put it on a thumb drive or SD card or even an external drive. It's worth investing in a high capacity storage device just for game backups. It can save you all kinds of headaches. That way if you screw up and break something you don't have to go through the trouble of a complete reinstall.

Plus, it definitely helps when you get a new PC. I've got all my Steam Games backed up. If I upgrade my PC I don't need to spend a week redownloading all of them. I just reinstall Steam, delete everything but my Steam.exe file, put my backed up steamapps folder into it, run Steam.exe again and let it update, and when it's done I've transfered all of my games to my new computer. Maybe an hour or two at most instead of a week or so.

Not to mention, if you've got older pre CD/DVD games it makes for easy transfer.

For example, I've got the complete Doom and Doom II, Wolfenstein, Quake 1-4, Half Life, American McGee's Alice, The entire ElderScrolls Series, and all sorts of other older games backed up on an external drive. Many of those games were originally on floppy disk drives when I first got them. I am able to transfer and play them without the outdated drives that would have been required otherwise easily.

It won't be long before CDs will no longer work in new drives. So if you've got disk based CD games backed up it not only saves on the wear and tear of the disk, but also makes them future proof and ensures they can easily be transferred to new systems.
