Star Wars battlefront 2 Crashing problem

im not sure if anyone else is having this trouble with Star Wars Battlefront 2, but every time i go to start a game, it crashes to the desktop. I am running Windows 7 7600. This game has worked on my computer before when i ran Windows Vista. I have also installed the 1.1 patch and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

    I also have such problem

On old computer (P4 3Gh, GT7600, win7x64), try all directX that have, but swbf2 crashes when start training or action. (On core2duo, GTX260 all work correctly)

I also have the same problem Battlefront II installs ok but crashes to desktop upon clicking the "new game" button.

This is a new PC using win7 x64 and 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series and latest drivers. I've tried various compatibility modes and detuning the video options both in game and in the adapter

Same problem here. Game installs fine, then when you load a mission, just before its start, you crash back to your desktop.

This is for both single and multiplayer.

According to the compatibility list, this game is suppose to work, I just want to know how.

Sucks as this is one of my all time favorites.

Well after looking at a few sites that report the same issue the problem is definitly with the audio devices in Windows 7.

In order to get the game to work you can do either two things (I have tried one of them)
1- Disable your sound devices (Playback) which is found in the control panel under sound. That I have tried and it works. Both single and multiplayer is working. The problem now is that you have no sound to play which sucks. Might as well not play at all imo.
2- Plug your speakers in the mic input ofyour sound card. In the end you will get the same result.

So, now that this is established (and this has been going on for a long time folks) its finding ways to bring sound to your game.

On my end I have two devices: Speakers and Digital Audio (S/PDIF). I tried disabling one at a time and it still didn't work. The main one is your core audio that comes out of the Speakers. If I take Digital Audio (S/PDIF) as default and take out speakers I still get no sound anyways.

    Any suggestions?

My onboard Audio device is Realtek. I'd like to open my box up and shove in a soundblaster card, but my shiny new computer is still under warranty, I dont want to break the warranty label trying this myself unless I know it will fix it.

Well I can confirm that this is really a sound driver issue.

We have two relatively new computers at home (one and two years old). When I last played Battlefront it was a month before I had the older computer hence I never tried it on these new systems (Vista) so I can't say if the older computer ever had the realtek driver or not.

The older computer, I did a clean install of Windows 7 (x86). My story for that issue is above so I won't repeat it. About a week later, I simply did an upgrade on my wife's computer (the newer one) as there was little things on it. When the upgrade was done and the final restart was done - upon startup I noticed the Realtek icon for sound. It didn't occur to me that I may of deleted a driver that was already there on the older computer but because of "newer" drivers it won't allow me to see the options that the realtek driver would.

So, this morning I decided to install Battlefront II on my wife's computer to see if it would work.
From what a lot of sites had mentioned I went to: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Manage Audio Devices. I then clicked on the "Recording" Tab, right clicked on the white area of the selection window and checked "Show Disabled Devices".

Needless to say, a Stereo Mixer popped that was disabled. I enabled it, applied it, closed all that and started up Battlefront II. It was working fine with sound and everything; single player and multiplayer. I didn't even have to do any compatibility tabs.

Hence I have one computer with Win7 that Battlefront II works with and the other not. I tried downloading and installing the realtek drivers but it doesn't seem to work so I'm not too sure what to do for the computer that it doesn't work on anymore. The driver is the issue/solution that is for sure.
