    Hi Koal,

Ken aka Zigzag has asked me to look into your problem.

But actually I fail to see any problem on your side of the connection.

The ping from your rig to your provider is in the 20ms to 30ms range, right?

    Or am I missing something?

Correct, just wondering why in some games (css/cod4) I get a higher ping but not in UrbanTerror

css/cod4 are definitely larger games and better graphics, cod4 is freshly installed. (using original steam folder for css)

    Hi Koal,

To elaborate, your connection to your ISP is perfectly ok, and has normal ping values.

The reason one game will have higher pings than the other is because of the different routes they take over the internet, and there's little to be done about it.
It can vary from day to day, or even from minute to minute, because the route won't always be the same.

Different games different servers, right? if so a different path and therefor different latency.

Gamevault.co.nz host the UrbanTerror server I was playing on, getting 30 ping.
They also host css servers, but no change.

    Here's a traceroute to Gamevault,

[edit], Generally I get a lower ping when pinging\traceroute, but as soon as I hit in game servers that's when the ping\latency increase?

    That's logical too.

Ping is just a tiny packet.

As soon as you log on, massive amount of data is being sent.

And game servers are often overloaded.

I've been kicked off game servers in the middle of a game because of overloads many times.

User base keeps growing + server hosts not investing in more capacity = overload.
