'Side By Side Configuration Incorrect' Bully: Scholarship Edition PC
Hello to all at Win7 Forums.
I have had this problem for over a year now, and it is only recently that I have decided to bring it to attention to several forums.
Neither of them were of any help so I have registered here to hopefully resolve the problem.
I also posted in 'Crashes and Debugging', but no-one cared enough to respond. I hope you guys here will be able to help me.
I have already taken numerous steps to attempt to fix the problem.
I guess I should start from the beggining:
THE BEGINNING
Around this time last year I downloaded a game called Bully: Scholarship Edition for my PC through Steam. It was running fine for about 4 months until one day, when I went to start it up, Steam gave me this error:
I thought nothing of it for a while. I then tried to run the raw .exe file, only to get this error:
I asked an online friend about this, he said to check event viewer, which I did. I found this relating to the problem:
MEASURES TAKEN
Note - the above images are images taken after some of my first actions.
My online friend told me to open the manifest file with Notepad. Not surprisingly, this is what I got:
I have attatched the corrupted file to this thread.Code:+‚7 0˜U#0€‚`@V'—%* S•Y䤡ca0_10 ’&‰“,dcom10 ’&‰“,d microsoft1-0+U$Microsoft Root Certificate Authority‚y*J *LsX.e0PUI0G0E C A†?http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/products/microsoftrootcert.crl0T+H0F0D+0†8http://www.microsoft.com/pki/certs/MicrosoftRootCert.crt0U%0 +0 *†H† ‚ —Š\D6*wyQM.tq[mξ{.ԢŒmbWN P™z@WXš†x‹;⾏ ȍHSO’
He reconstructed the corrupted manifest file for me, however, even when I had set the file permissions of the manifest files to me, Windows wouldn't let me modify, move or delete them.
I had to resort to booting into linux via a CD and let him reconstruct the file.
It worked because when I tried to run the game again, the error pointed to a different manifest file (the picture in the link above).
Here are the other measures I have taken to stop this problem:
1) I have followed all instructions at this link (the Steam Support Database) to no avail.
2) I have deleted the game and re-downloaded it completely. I tried to run it again with the same result.
I then did the following things, following the instructions from someone else on another forum, to no avail:
- I uninstalled the game and any remaining traces of it.
- I ran a chkdsk /r
- I ran a sfc/ scannow via command prompt. I got the following message:
The log is too big to upload, so here is the online link to it: CBS.log - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download
- I ran a startup repair via the Windows 7 DVD. It found nothing.
- I ran a sfc/ scannow with the Windows 7 DVD in. Same result.
I then re-installed the game through a back-up I had made via Steam and tried to run it again...I got the same error.
I am at my wits end with this. I really like this game and I have tried everything I could think of to get it working again.
If you guys could help me with this problem it would be great.
Cheers :)
