    oups
really sorry ! It was late ....
I somehow managed to get kotor 1 runnig in seven by disabling videos and hardware mouse from the launcher menu.

Those two configurations work for me:

    • seven pro 32b + catalyst 8.5 + videos/mouse disabled
    • ubuntu jaunty 32b + catalyst 9.8 + wine 1.1.27 + videos/mouse disabled

Didn't take the time to verify seven + recent catalyst drivers but I think it should work.

It seems that one of the problems with KOTOR 1 in Win7 are multiple CPU cores. I had frequent crashes every few minutes until i disabled the second core for the game.
Start the Game, Alt+Tab out of it, start the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), right-click on swkotor.exe in the Processes Tab, select Affinity and disable all but one core/cpu.
I hope this'll help, it worked for me.

I can see this problem is clearly solvable, but I'm still having trouble. The game runs for 5 minutes. Starting from a brand knew game, I can get to the bridge, and then the game will crash. It's also not specifically that spot, but wherever I am at the end of that 5 minutes. Further, after certain cut scenes or combat, I lose the ability to control the movement of the main character, as in they don't move at all, and am forced to move the other party member. This isn't as bad as crashing, and control returns eventually. Another thing I have noticed is that my framerate is off the charts, running at upwards of 700 fps. Smooth as anything, but a little concerning.

Currently running the latest drivers for windows 7 for EVGA GeForce 9800 gtx+, searched for all updates and installed everything from them, but there was no nVidia anything in my optional updates. I attempted to run it in XP compatable mode, uninstalled and reinstalled, ran updated and not updated.

    Any help would be appreciated.
I am having this exact problem, with basically that same setup, I am running Kotor 1.03 with a nocd crack, quad core processor with it affinity set to only 1 processor for swkotor.exe. Is there any other possible fixes?

Hey guys, I have just yesterday decided to try and play KotOR II in Win7 when i found out that it has this new cool virtualization fo XP mode, unfortnatly my processor doesnt support that... but anyway i decided to try and instal it on Win7. I was so happy to see it work with no trouble what so ever . I have the Win7 Professional 64bits instaled, it's the final version that i was able to access in my university. I also have a HD 4870 with Catalyst version 9.7 and the video drivers version 8.6, my game is version 2.0, at least its what it says in the start menu. I have been playing the game for some hours now and never crashed, I arrived to Telos and no problems yet. I didn't needed to use compatibility mode to play.

I just can say, this is the BEST OS ever.

For everyone attempting to play KOTOR1 with the latest drivers and the game continues to crash after combat, or a few minutes of play: It's a pretty well known fact that using the latest drivers causes this. This issue has been around forever, it's not gonna change anytime soon. The first thing I recommend you try is downgrade your drivers.

I currently upgraded to Windows 7, but I'll be installing it soon. I'll test it with old drivers and share the results as soon as I get them. For the record, I'm playing with a GeForce 8800 GT gfx card.

Installed KOTOR1. Setup WideScreen resolution 1680x1050, as well as fixed the HUD with the help of WSGF Hacks. I tested the game out initially with fully updated drivers and couldn't make it through the character creation screen. I downgraded my GeForce drivers to 181.71 for 64bit Windows 7, and got better results. But after a few fights, the game crashed.

So, I downgraded further, this time installing the 178.24 driver for 64bit Windows Vista. I restarted the game and haven't had a problem yet. Got through the first part just fine, and just started up Taris. If my game ever crashes, I'll let you know.

Other than that, if your gfx card qualifies (remember, I'm running an 8-series card), I recommend downloading and installing the 178.24 drivers for Windows Vista to get KOTOR1 up and running on your Windows 7 OS. It's really easy and very simple.

Here's the link to the drivers that I am currently personally using for KOTOR.
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 178.24 WHQL

I hope this helps some of you.
