    Solution

Well, there is a simple solution for this.
The game works only when you tick the no music button in configuration. It's like that from Windows vista,7 ,8,8.1, and 10.
I tried everything else, like compatibility and stuff, it doesn't work. Probably will work with dual boot ( too much work) or an XP simulator.
But without music, it works perfectly.
Note that only music stops working. Not the sounds, so all the other in game sounds are active.

Sorry to necropost, but this time the issue with music is put to rest! The Windows Media Source Filter is missing on Windows Vista and later. I have documented the solution on my blog and I updated the PCGamingWiki article/page on the game too. The fix/patch I made fully restores the music properly, and I even found out what was causing the music to skip around a bit too.

It works really well, I am still so happy that I got it to work in the end!
