    Can't see your system specs ... But I think ours AND MANY OTHERS problems are similar ... using a combination of K-Lite Codec packs finally solved my "Freezing" almost unplayable problem ...

    I'd spent hrs upon hrs trying to fix the "Freezing" problem, i.e. loss of input from mouse/keyboard but Sound continues along with Enemy/NPC dialog/movement/even attacks. ...


    I.E. I tried Editing the FALLOUT.ini / several complete installs/uninstalls w/different file locations / w/without compatability modes / enabling/dis-abling multiple combos of the DLC & patches / different VGA/Sound driver sets / Windowed mode w/every resolution/graphics setting imaginable, to even disabling in the bios all but "one core" for confirmed single-core CPU operation.


    NOTHING FULLY WORKED TILL NOW ... for more details/info you can read about it ... HERE
    NOTE: Ignore the "NO Sound" in the title that's FIXED also ...

    Depends on where you freeze or lockup wether you'll notice other things happening around you. The only way I could get out of the freeze was to use Ctrl/Alt/Delete to close Fallout3 through Task Manager (or Alt/F4). After going through all the common solutions for fixing freezing or sometimes called lockups ... I was able to fix the freezing (happened every 1-10min for me starting inside the Vault 101) with disabling the sound by editing the FALLOUT.ini file. Go to Start / Documents / My Games / Fallout 3 / FALLOUT.ini [Audio] bEnableAudio=1 and change the 1 to a 0 ... that disables your sound and all my freezing problems went away, then I fixed the Sound problem by re-enabling the sound [bEnableAudio=1 (change back to 1)] and using the K-Lite Codecs as explained in my earlier link to ...

    And I also have Windows "Aero" disabled through the Fallout3.exe / Compatibilty /Settings / Disable Visual themes and Disable desktop composition boxes checked.
