Problem with Burnout Paradise and Crysis

Well, first post in the forum although i've been using it a lot.
I'm having some trouble with those 2 games: Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box and Crysis (the original).

The thing is, for example in Crysis, (using fraps to using fraps to monitor the fps) when i launch the game the fps are fine (it's only a black screen) but then when it moves to the sponsors and Cryek animations the fps drop to very, very low (15 and below). When i'm in the menu the games is so slow i can barely move the mouse and click. I didn't even start the actual gameplay.

It's the same story with Burnout. I tried to start the actual gameplay but i had like 5 fps...


None of these happened with other games that i tried: Left 4 Dead, S4League, Trials2, Trine, Spore, and some MMOs: Dragonica and Florensia, which i can play all very fine, even with high resolutions and details.

My drivers are fine i guess (9.8 AGP hotfix from the amd website), i don't have many programs on background (Nod32, Advanced SystemCare and Virtual CloneDrive). DirectX version is 10.

What could be the problem? Thanks in advance

Hey dotcom, those games are very new compared ot the hardware that you are running. You are running a Northwood core I assume and thats like 6 years old is it? Also a 3850 agp video card? First off that does not support DX 10 so your games are likely running in DX 9. Maybe with the DX 9 end user runtime update from Microsoft you can get a frame or two better performance but mate I seriously think it is your hardware that cannot run the games. Also you did not mention what settings and resolution you were trying to play at.

Burnout has a lot of stuff rendered on the screen, lot of particle effects, vehicles and ai and crash physics...Crysis is well...brutal so yeah I dont think your machine has the power to run it
Also Left 4 Dead while a brilliant looking game does not require much gpu power to run at good fps. I dont know how Valve did it with the Source engine but it leverages both CPU and GPU in conjunction to have a good performance. Though I still kind of doubt your claim of very high resolution and settings. I could of course be wrong but I sure would like to know what settings and res :)

Thank you for your reply and sorry i did not give enough details. I forgot the most important: these 2 games used to run pretty well on Windows XP (1 month ago): Burnout at Low-Medium 1024x768 pretty fluid and playable (could win any race ); Crysis all at low and 1024x768 also playable.

I tried running with the same settings on W7.

I will try reinstalling Direct X. dxdiag says i got DirectX 11 software.


I hope for more replies to try to solve this situation, else i think i'm moving back to XP
