Every time I play a game on steam, and after I'm playing a game for about an hour or so (regardless of what game I'm playing) the game just closes out. Can anyone help?
This would be the first time I've ever had to post something on the net for help on something so I may not even be doing this right. Regardless, I'm having endless problems with Steam. See, I'm a huge Warhammer 40k fan and just got ahold of my first Dawn of War 2 title, Chaos Rising, today. I had it delivered to me at about 230pm on thursday october 13th. So far I've spent all day in front of my computer trying to get past this annoying thing about Steam. No matter how close I get to finishing it off, it does something else to stop me from installing my game. I made an account on Steam's site, and I've installed it twice through the game's automatic launcher. My DSL isn't all that fast so updating it after installment takes hours. Even after it's finished and updated, I'll let it log into my account and then it doesn't respond then eventually says it can't connect. And after I've finally gotten the program fully downloaded and installed, it simply doesn't launch anymore now. I've ran it as an administrator, I've set it on different compatibility settings, I've done anything and everything I can think of. It's becoming overwhelmingly aggravating and I'm tired of installing this stupid Steam thing over and over again. I just want to play Chaos Rising, I have no interest in doing any online play. So if anyone could help me out with any of this at all it would be greatly appreciated.
Check that Steam is allowed to run through Windows firewall. See step 11 here....
Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues11 - Game Managers - Some games use game managers or download systems for updates, achievements, and digital rights management, and they are usually installed with the game (you don’t get a choice). So….If you’re have gaming issues, you’ll need to look at these as well. Below are the three most popular ones….
I've managed to get past Steam's rigorous gauntlet of installation. I still have problems logging into it usually and when I do log in it doesn't respond sometimes... But right now, all I care about is finding out how to directly install my copy of Chaos Rising to my pc and not wait for Steam's redundant and faulty system to download it. I bought it, I don't need to download it. I refuse to sit here for a week waiting for it to download a 9gb game that I already have on a retail disc. I tried going into My Computer doing the "Run or install through your media" option and it is no different from having Steam tinker with it for days. I don't know where else to turn. So if anybody could help me any further I could possibly see myself playing my game sometime in the future...eventually
Once you activate the game, you can set steam to offline mode, and by pass going online all together.
You only need a online connection to install & activate the game 1 time.
But Im not sure if it will make you patch or not.
I really appreciate the help so far. I think I'm almost at the end of the line. It's still really difficult to log into Steam just to start somewhere. I tried going offline and launching but it says it isn't prepared to be played which I knew was coming. If I keep letting Steam download it (it's almost 1/12 of the way downloaded) it will take a week atleast. Is that my only option now or is there some other way I can mount the game or manually install it? No matter what I do Steam always ends up popping up. I've tried every single cloak and dagger method I've read a dozen forums, watched a few videos, and I can do no more. So should I just surrender and let Steam download my entire game? Or is there something else I can do?
