    Well, I have this error for ages now and I can't stand it anymore.
    Everytime I play Games like Counter Strike: Source or COD: MW3 my Laptop freezes and I just see some random Colours on my desk. Today I played MW3 on Windowmode and this helped me to know what my problem is but I still don't know how to solve this! Here's a picture: Imageshack - lolomh.png

    If you need informations about my Laptop just ask for it because I don't know which informations I should post, anyway:
    - Dell XPS L502X
    - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    - Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
    - 4.00 GB RAM
    - Using 2 desktops, my Laptop and my ASUS
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

    After checking out quite a number of forums, threads and potential solutions, it seems that there is no 100% correct way to deal with that error.

    Some have reported success updating their DirectX using this web installer (you need an active Internet connection to your machine for this):

    Some have mentioned reverting to older drivers, or updating their drivers to the newest ones. I see that your problematic machine is an XPS L502X, which uses Optimus for switching between the dedicated 540M and the Intel integrated card. This makes it more complicated as only the drivers from your manufacturer can be used.

    If you're doing any overclocking, revert it back to default clocks.

    Thanks for the fast reply and I'm now done with this System Spec Thing so let me continue.
    I think I've seriously tried everything, updated my NVIDIA drivers, updated DirectX via Web installer, manually installed almost every single driver from my DELL CD but I seriously don't know what to do.
    But what is this Optimus thing? ANd do you have any other tipps what I should check or do?

    Optimus is the technology that NVIDIA uses to allow your computer to switch between the 540M and the Intel Integrated graphics located on your CPU when necessary. (i.e. using the 540M when gaming and the Intel graphics when idling)

    Does the problem occur on all other games or just those two games mentioned in your OP?

    If I'm not mistaken there's a procedure for you to force your Laptop to use its 540M card when playing games, instead of letting the system decide whether to switch between the 2:-

    Begin by opening the Nvidia control panel.

    In the "Manage 3D settings" tab, go to program settings and click add.

    Navigate to your game's installation path, and choose the games exe file.
    (For example, if Modern Warfare 3 is installed at C:\Games\Modern Warfare 3 , go there and choose MW3.exe)

    Force it to use your Nvidia card.

    After you have applied the settings, go to your desktop and try running the game again.

    Well I did what you told me but I received that Error again so I am now asking which of those 3 whould I choose? I am now gonna try 'HP Nvidia...', Hope you have some other suggestions for me! :)

    Yep. High Performance NVIDIA processor should be the one.

    Other than that, I'm afraid I've run out of ideas..

    You didn't reply my previous question though.

    Does this error occur on all games or just those two games?

    Does running a 3D program like Furmark produce the same Direct X error?

    So I did what you told me and played for like 45 Minutes! But then all of the sudden again these Colours...
    And yes this happens in every Game except for CrossFire idk why.
    And btw I am now gonna run this Furmark thing.

    Be careful when running Furmark.

    If your temps are reaching 90 C and above, terminate the program immediately and allow your laptop to cool off.
