How can I play this game, error message relating to compatibility?

So I recently bought and downloaded a game, Hearts of Iron 3 (2009). Now every time I click to play it I receive a pop up with this message.

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I checked and my laptop has a 64-bit operating system, therefore the game must be the 32-bit version of the software hence why it isn't playing.

Other than that I don't know much, I just want to play the game!

Have you tried downloading the 64 bit version of the gam? If you have to make another purchase, try sending an email to the company asking them to allow you to download the 64 bit version for free

Well, try right clicking the icon going into properties, clicking the compatibility tab and try all those. Hope I helped.
