    Diablo Weird Colour Fix

This Fix corrects the problems in Diablo displaying colours incorrectly.

    1. Install the game. (if already installed please backup your saved games, uninstall the game, delete the files remaining in the folder that was installed and install the game again)

    2. Download the update 1.09 from Blizzard Support.

    3. Once downloaded run the update as administrator. (remember that the game disc must be in the drive)

    4. Download this file DiabloFIX.zip.

    5. Extract and copy the file to the game folder.

    6. Edit your game shortcut

    • In Games Explorer: First open Games Explorer and wait until the game update the stats, now close and go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer sort the folders by date and it should be the one down the GamesBoxArt folder, open the folder {#-#-#-#-#}>PlayTasks>0 right-click in the game icon and go to properties, replace the .exe for .bat at the end of the target path

    or
    • In Start Menu: Go to All Programs>Diablo> right-click in the game icon and go to properties, replace the .exe for .bat at the end of the target path

    7. Make sure that the game is not setting to run in compatibility mode or disabling settings.

The game now should display correctly.

Reviewed in Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) Build 7600.

Credits to all the people trying to get the game fixed.

Thanks for the fix, worked great. Just want to point out to anyone else using this fix that it terminates the explorer.exe process. If you don't know hot to manually restart it on Windows 7 do the following.

    1. Ctrl + Alt + Del
    2. Select "Start Windows Task Manager"
    3. In Task Manager, select file.
    4. Select "New Task(Run)"
    5. Type in, "explorer.exe" without the brackets.
    6. Done

Just a friendly tip in case anyone computer illiterate uses this fix.

Hi people.first of all thank you for trying to help, but I have some wierd stuff happening... my computer never bugged, but since I installed d1 this morning it started. first of all, I uninstalled d1 as you told me, I did it through the control panel etc. But I cannot delete the diablo 1 folder, it's wierd, it tells me that I do not have administrator previleges... but I AM the only user in this computer, and I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR! and I don't have acces to the folder, and can't delete it, or change it's setting to have acces to it! that's first. Second thing... while uninstallig the game, I've recieved a message telling me that there's another user logged in on this computer (seriously wtf??! I'm the only one here, the only other user is "guest" and it's deactivated), and it told me as well that the game may remove but not completely. (there's the answer for the 1st question, probabily). And the last thing... I installed the 1.09 patch, and copied that file into the game directory... and changed the exe to bat. but it didn't work... that's when I realized that in the left down corner of the game it says version 1.08... then I try to update through bnet, it download the patch, it installs (tries), it says it was suclessfull, but then an error screen appears with some "failed network connection" or so, can't remember clearly... but in the previous installation it was all fine when installing it...
    some help? please??
Wierd wierd wierd wierd, how many times can I say this? after this, I run the safe mode, and the folder wasn't there anymore, then I run the normal mode, and the folder wasn't there anymore xDD
BTW, the error message that won't let me patch, is "netword upgrade failed"

If you log into your battle.net account, and register your game with it, don't install it from the CD, rather download it from the battle.net account management screen, that version contains a fix to the color issue. I have verified this with Diablo, Diablo II w/ Lord of Destruction, and Starcraft w/ Broodwar.

Im running Windows 7 64 bit

    ************
Make a shortcut and right click and go to properties then to the compatibility tab
Run in Windows 98 / Me
    Run in 256 colors
    RUn in 640 x 480
    Run as administrator
    ************
    That works fine...

All these "kill explorer" bat file solutions are f***ing retarded...

    Enjoy.

The best thing you could actually do is download the "GlideWrapper" from a website and install it. Worked fine for me. I didn't need to do anything else other than using the "test" file and selecting "Glidewrapper".

    I fixed it

Okay guys, instead of doing it the hard way and have to download anything, here is an easy fix for it..

I have done some testing and all you have to do is:

    -Change windows theme to classic
-Open screen resolution settings (right click > screen resolution) and keep that window open
-Open Diablo or Diablo Hellfire and play!

Don't ask me why or how, cause i really don't know.. It is important that you have the screen resolution window open, even though you don't need to change ANY settings in there.. as long as your theme is on classic windows..
It's an easy way and you don't need to download anything.. you can always change theme when you are done playing and if anything going for classic theme also improves perfomance!

    Good luck playing Diablo !

    Btw: I am using Windows 7, 64-bit, 32-colours

How do you register Diablo 1? I have registered my Diablo 2 and expansion, but can't register Diablo 1, there's simply no option to do so.
