audiodg.exe problem

    audiodg.exe problem


    When on games, such as Age of Empires 3, my CPU being an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, being fairly old as it is, is performance-sensitive to other programs using the CPU. When on then main screen on AOE3 on Windows XP, I usually get 20 fps. On Windows 7, I'm getting around 13 fps. Looking at task manager, I see that audiodg.exe is taking up around 15% of the CPU, after deleting the process, I get my usual 20fps back.

    Aware that the process is required for the sound, is there a way I can either get rid of it and still have sound, or a way to minimize it's usage?

    You could try using the task manager to kill the process, but the main problem is the age of your system..

    When I kill the process, there's no sound through the speakers from the game.

    No... It is not possible

    I agree with you that xp2800+ is quite old but I can't agree with you that becuase how old his system is,he is having a problem.
    I have AMD x2 5600+ black edition,and I have even bigger problem with that same audiodg.exe process.Sometimes even when I start my system,audiodg process is taking sometimes even 50-60% of CPU usage.What could be mine problem then?
    I have 4gigs of DDR2@800Mhz inside.

    Your problem, paisan, is most probably your audio driver, although I too see increased usage, 5-10%, when playing - music, using newest Realtek HD.

    Are you running a Creative Soundcard with EAX enabled?

    I found early on that leaving EAX enabled doesn't play nice with audiodg.exe. There were times after a gaming session that the process itself was using 1.5GB of ram. Also using a Ventrilo server I noticed that every time I talked, it added to the usage. Once I disabled EAX everything was fine...stayed at about 12-15MB usage.

    Possible,it started to happen maybe month or two ago,butthe weirdest thing is that CPU usage goes up even when absolutely nothing is playing,just like whole system went crazy.And usually,at the same time,one of the svchost.exe processes goes mad,but good thing with svchost is that I can kill it without any consequences.
