All games crashing to desktop, need assistance

This has been going on for a while now, and I've just about reached my limit. Couldn't decide on whether to post here or in the crashes section, seemed like this is a safer bet to start.

The problem is that every game I try and play will work anywhere from 5 mins to 1.5 hours, then crash to desktop, with the average time before crash probably in the 15-30 minute range. A list of games that this happens to:

    Far Cry 3
    X-COM: EU
    Don't Starve
    IL2 Sturmovik: 1946
    Rise of Flight
    Guild Wars 2
    Rift
Farming Simulator 2011/2013 (yes, plz don't laugh)

Most of these games save your progress automatically on a frequent basis, so I was always just able to reload and continue without too much problem. The flight sims and Far Cry 3 aren't like this, I had to watch the first cut-scene with Dennis three times due to crash to desktop before I reached a point where it would save. I'm sick of dealing with it and I would love some help.

I just upgraded to a HD7870 last week from a 4890, was really hoping that the upgrade would fix it. No such luck for me, although I do love the card so far, everything runs like butter before it crashes. I do have the most recent drivers for it, used Driver Fusion and CCleaner to get rid of old driver fragments before installing the new ones and everything. All temps look good too, the new card idles around 27C, gets up to around 65C on load. CPU temps seem fine too, 30C idle, 45C load.

Event viewer does have some info, though I'm not certain how to decode it. I'll attach a couple of them to this, maybe you experts can tell me what it means? One from FC3, one from xcom, and one that I have no idea where it comes from or if it's even related, but it is a little scary.

My first post on this site, seems like a wealth of info here. Glad I found it!

    My system:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    AMD Phenom II x4 B50
    Saphire Radeon HD7870
    12gb DDR3 1600
    Seagate 250gb HDD

I'll take the lack of response to mean that I should have posted in the crashes section.

I did some more research and figured it out, if anybody's interested. 0x000005 was a common error code across all the error logs that I had regarding game crashes. I discovered that this error code had to do with not being able to access RAM, so the program would terminate. I did a check of my hardware, and it seems that one of my RAM sticks wasn't seated properly. I didn't feel a difference when I removed the stick in slot 4, but when I took it out and plugged everything back in, I was able to play FC3 for a couple of hours without problems. I thought it may have been a bad stick, so to confirm I swapped it with the stick in slot 3. Managed to play another hour without problems, so I put the stick back into slot for. Played for another hour without problems, so I'm assuming that it just wasn't seated properly. I did move a few months ago, so maybe it somehow got jarred loose during that process. *shrug*

Moral of the story: Learn what error codes mean, and check your hardware after moving!
