Rise of Nations won't even install on Windows 7 64-bit

OK, my OS is Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition. When I insert my Rise of Nation disc (By Ubisoft exclusive), the game won't even install. My DVD drive shows no disc being inserted despite inserting the disc.

Please help! Other games with discs work fine.

Strange. I play Rise OF Nations too and never once had any issues installing it. Check the disc in a friend's PC, if they don't work there you gonna need to get them exchanged.

    Good luck.

Well, I went to the Amazon.com reviews and it appears that some users are having the same problem as me. The Ubisoft exclusive edition does not seem to work on some PCs with Windows 7.

Well, after all, its a Ubisoft game... not working is part of their motto.!

Many of their games have had that problem, it appears that if you have a Virtual disc installed or if your CD Rom is a SATA CD Rom, UBI's DRM takes the CD Rom as a Virtual disc, aka pirated version, hence, the problem with not seeing the disc. Now, this is what was happening with games like GRAW, VEGAS, etc, so this was back in 2005 an on... you would think that by now that problem would be solved, right?

Things you could try.... if you haven't already

1.- Insert disc but do not let it autoplay or click on Explore Folder.

2.- In Explore Folder, right click on the setup.exe and Run as an Administrator

3.- if that does not work, try copying the content of the Disc onto a Temp folder in your HDD and try #2 again.

If after that brutal punishment the game still does not work, you can either... get your money back and be done with UBI or try your luck with their Tech Support but I gotta be honest, don't hold your breath with them.

OK, my DVD player ias Optiarc DVD RW AD_75835. When I insert the disc, the DVD drive does not even acknowledge that the disc is there. It shows a DVD RW Drive E icon. This icon is similar when there is no disc inserted. So I am not sure whether it is a SATA CD Rom.

You don't find the Explorer Folder, unless of course you have one already installed.

When you insert a disc on a cd rom, autoplay starts and you get a window where you are asked to setup or play but you are also ask if you want to explore the folder or content of the disc... that is what I meant.

Now, by looking at your last post, it seems that the Disc does not even spin on your drive, again, nothing new of a UBI game and if you have other discs that work then that game is no good and you have a good cause to get your money, refund or another disc.

If you really, really want to play the game, I would take that game back to the store you purchased it and explain to them that the disc does not spin on your CD Rom and other games do... take a couple or few games with you so the store can test your games in hopes that the disc does not spin on one of their computers as well.

    Good Luck

Now, if you have a friend with a different CD Rom and the disc spin there, try copying the content onto a thumb drive and then you can paste the content on a folder on your hdd and try the options I gave you before.

Yes, the disc does not even spin. There is nothing wrong with my DVD player by the way. Autoplay also does not start.

I bought the game via Amazon.com and I am living in Singapore. There is no way I can return back the disc because the shipping costs outweigh the cost of my disc.

I guess the only route I can go is to purchase the game with the original casing and not by Ubisoft. I guess that will work then.

Thanks for your help. I will keep you guys posted once I get the game from the original publisher.
