OH, I think I got it. on the properties for the shortcut, make sure to click the "change setting for all users" and then choose winxp (sp3) and check all the others in the list.

This seems to have fixed it for me.
Oh my god! It actually works! Thanks a lot man, I've already repped you!

    Just for the record:

For me it runs great with Build 7100

    • right-click starcraft.exe and open "properties"
    • go to compatibility
    • select run in compatibility mode for WindowsXP SP3
    • check ALL the checkboxes under Settings

Hit Ok - and you're all set
No open "display settings" required for me (as mentioned in previous posts).

this worked for me thz so much

So these fixes don't work for me. However, someone mentioned in passing on another forum that 8-bit (256 color) games don't work full-screen in Win7 because the taskbar is "always on top" and that it is what messes up the colors:

close all instances of Explorer.exe because the Taskbar in Windows 7 is displayed "on top" of other windows ****ing the palette up in old 8bit games that use similar methods to the Surface Renderer in DOSBox.

Worms Armageddon which is a Direct Draw game also suffers it but I have a BAT file to work around it.

    Code:
    taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
    E:\"Worms Armageddon"\"Wormkit.exe"
    pause
    start explorer.exe
This works for me, except that it freezes at "Loading" until I alt+tab out and back in. Weird.

The only solution that works for me is having the Screen Resolution window open and then running starCraft.
I run it with these compatibility settings:

    • Run in 256 colors
    • Disable visual themes
    • Disable desktop composition
    • Display display scaling on high DPI settings
    • Run as administrator

This method also works for me with Age of Empires 2.

Yeah, that doesn't work for me. Are you saying you tried the method I posted and that it didn't work, or did you not see my post?

Just tested your method, works as well for me.
I just opened a command prompt and entered the taskkill command to kill explorer.
Ran SC and no color issues whatsoever.
It didn't lock up when loading for me.
