    Fallout 3 0xC0000005

Well, I didn't read every post on this 29 page thread, but I can tell you after trying just about every suggestion for fixing Fallout 3, nothing worked.

Instead, I found a spot in the game that consistently caused a crash to desktop and then tracked the problem through Event Viewer to find the 0xC0000005 error.

This led to a multitude of possibilities, but when tied to the "study" done by one college class on Fallout 3 bugs, I figured there was an interface problem with either video, sound, or memory. Keep in mind, EVERY other program works just fine.

So, while rolling back the drivers to an earlier state, I happened to notice that amongst my various devices (in Device Manager) was an unknown device. A coprocessor (for what, I do not know) was not recognized. Was it this way after installing Win 7? Hmm...

I pulled out my mobo driver installtion disc and found Win 7 could not recognize it. So, I drilled down to the chipset drivers on the DVD and installed them manually. Voila!

    Coprocessor recognized. No more crashes.

Well, I guess this supports the one path of ideas that Fallout 3 has problems with multiprocessors. (Maybe that's because it is trying to use them and they are not recognized.)

NOTE: I have an Nvidia mobo and nVidia website stated my drivers were up-to-date even though I had parts of it not working.

No more Fallout 3 crashes: (five days now.)
PS. Everything set to Ultra High 1650x1080.

Installed on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Signature Edition (Retail version)

No hitches, or issues. Plays just fine, no bombs from start to finish.

System info should be in my profile for those with inquiries.

Try logging into Windows Live through the game, then run patch. I had the same patching issue until I logged into Windows Live. Makes no sense but it worked.

    Good luck

Okay so it turned out my drivers wern't 100% uptodate. After updating them the game worked a treat, however it crashed after about 2 hours and now it just crashes again when i try to load/start new game. I've browsed alot of forums and found out that Asusgamer + Asus doc can cause this so i removed them. Now i have no resoultions on my options at all. I've tried running compatability + windows live through it but it won't work still. Could anyone help?

You need to find the latest patch, that game is full of bugs but it works ok once you get it patched. They are up to the 1.7 patch now and you will need it for sure.

You can just download the patch from the official site and install it.

Yeah. It would be nice to know if he followed my advice and got the game patched, or got it patched at all?
