The latest version is 1.7, but as already stated, you don't really have the hardware, so regardless of what you do, you're probably always going to have issues running the latest games.

    I give up :/
But the problem is that the video board isn't supporting the game's graphics? Or is anything else related?

    Thak you for your help.

Kudos for persistence, but it's already been made quite clear that onboard graphics are no good to play graphic intensive games.

    success!

I wanted to pass on my appreciation for this exhaustive thread. My situation was that i had F3 GOTY working but it suddenly stopped working. After following almost every suggestion here, the tip about codecs was the key, i had recently installed Tsunami filter pack 3.9.9.

Did a complete uninstall of that and were back in business!

Thanks to everybody participating in the thread!

So your issue was codec's? Hmm, might look into removing the few ones that I have installed, if the situation gets worse.

I've recently had a bit more luck with my install of FO3, by setting compatibility mode and turning off desktop composition the game rarely crashes any more. There are a couple of area's that I have determined it will crash if I go there, just can't remember which ones Will do some testing tonight and see if I can find them again.

    Fallout 3 crashing

I just got Fallout 3 and i can't seem to find help anywhere for my problem.

Whenever i open Fallout 3 it looks like it's going into the game but crashes instantly after opening and doesn't give me any sort of error or even appear on the task bar.

    Can someone please help me.

Is it a copy you've got, as it use to do the same for me until I got a decent 5GB in size version, and have you got the 1.7 update?

    Crashes where?

Starting a new game? Creating a profile etc?

i figured out a little bit before it even opened i got a message saying

"this program isn't compatible with certain visual elements of windows. Click here for more information."

it changes the visual settings to windows basic then back again before i can click on the message and Fallout 3 doesn't open.

I have tried permenantly changing the settings to windows basic and when i do that nothing happens at all with Fallout 3
