    Did you try this?

The issue is not with video drivers, its with .netframwork 3.5.1. And to fix this you need to do this.

    1. Go to control panel, programs and Features, then Turn windows features on or off.

    2. Then click on the + next to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and put and check mark on the box below that!!

    3. Click on ok then if it ask you to reboot then reboot and then try the game again and it should work!!"

Also backup your character and delete the character save folder then try a new game again.

If the game is crashing with the stopped working message, before you get to the main menu or shortly after, its usually because something isnt loading right. DLC or a MOD.

Try launching the game with no DLC enabled (just the basic FO game, and see if it works.
If it does, then enable 1 DLC at a time untill you find which is causing the crash.

Might also want to double check graphics settings.

You could also try to bypass the launcher with FOMM.
Fallout mod manager at Fallout 3 Nexus - Fallout 3 mods and community

This is NOT a crack. It just bypasses the FO3 launcher and loads the game/DLC/mods in the proper order.

Its intended purpose is to bypass the FO3 launcher, and load FO3/DLC/ and any mods in the proper order. its actually better than the original launcher, even if you aren't running any mods.

You will still need to start the regular launcher to adjust graphics settings.

As posted earlier in this rather long thread...

Visit Bethesda - Fallout 3 on Windows 7.
SecuROM issue? - Fallout 3 on Windows 7.

Also, have you updated your DX files??? Contrary to popular belief even though Windows 7 is DX11 capable, you STILL need to update the DX9 files. And Microsoft continues to update all the DX files so updates are still in order.

Web installer - Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime. if you have issues getting it to update, then download the entire 104MB file here Download details: DirectX Redist (February 2010)

You might want to look at this as well (just in case) - Fallout 3 goty disk 2 help please!

    Good luck

I'm having the same problem as amadeus. I have tried every compatibility mode available and have used the user accounts change, run as an admin, and everything else suggested. I have Windows 7 64bit and have updated directx and my drivers.
The difference here is that my game was downloaded from Steam and I don't know if that may play into this at all. I've tried the majority of what has been offered through this thread and I still have the issue of loading the game and starting the launcher, but the moment that I click "new game" everything goes haywire. I hope that I've given enough information and please help if you can.
