Well i just reinstalled windows 7 and did exactly that grim, first thing i installed was games for windwos and it installed fine. I wonder if it was something else that I downloaded that messed it up or if it was the installer that came with fallout 3.

I'm not sure if it was something else that you installed but I had to do the same thing for GTA4, so I would say it has something to do with Games for windows on the install disc that doesn't like windows 7

Ok reinstaling windows 7 fixed the problem.
i could install games for windows with no problems and the fallout 3 instalation went without problems also. The game runs smooth and stable .
So i presume if u have problem with instalin the games for windows reinstallin windows it self could solve the problem. its the only solution i have found so far but if someone has a better option with out the requirement to reinstall windows it might be a better one. tho win7 installs in under 30 mins and with all drivers and stuff i had to install afterward it took me under 1 hour to play the game :)

best of luck chaps see ya in a different post :)

I installed the 64 bit version, and now Fallout 3 works smoother then it did in Vista (32bit but I only have 2gb of ram), only it does crash as much if not a little more.

Fallout 3 refuses to install on my system. The installation displays an error when windows games live tries to install. I tried downloading that software directly from microsoft web site and it refuses to install.

I will try re-installing windows 7, then Fallout 3 and post again.

I found a workaround in another post

SQM Client Causing Crashing in Windows 7 at Chris123NT’s Blog

It is now installing and working, and I hope other .msi files refusing to install will now collaborate.
