    So far I have

Deleted "my games" folder (I moved my saves to a different place, but even if that doesn't work I'll just start anew).
It just creates a new "my games" folder on start up, and continues the loop.
Checked the security tab on each folder and ini file to make sure there is full read/write privileges.
    Nothing changed, loop still there.
Checked the security tab for the game and launcher, gave all privileges of read/write.
    Nothing changed, loop still there.
    Reinstalled the game
    Nothing changed, loop still there.

Well, as user Chuki stated, dont delete the my games folder (or move it), go inside and CREATE a new folder named Fallout 3. That seemed to work to me and alot of other people too. No more looping around in the splash screen.

    Cheers

i`m having the same problem and i`m pretty sure its because of the folder problem. In my case, i think i screwed something up with the my documents link in the c:\users\my)user\ folder while trying to change the documents folders location i accidently deleted the folder and now i can get it back as the system folder...
i`ve tried creating the folders manualy but that didnt help.. still getting the loop (it cant create the pref file because it doesnt know where to the find the right folder)
idea`s on how to get it back?

    thanks

    Ok try this:

    - Go to your now created folder (check if it is \user\my games\fallout3\saves and make sure it isnt \user\my games\fallout 3\saves) and there should be another folder with the username used in your backup save. Check if there`s inside a file named FalloutPrefs.ini. Thats the file that will save your settings of the configurations made on the splash screen, and consequently avoid it from looping.

Not sure if it will do the trick, but at least i know other people that had problems with that file.

    Cheers!

no that not it. the problem is that my windows "lost" the my documents folder. fallout is trying to go there to create the folder but comes back empty handed... i need to relink the folder in windows.

Edit: it seems that in the registry path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

the "Personal" value contains the path to the current my documents directory.

after moving my docs to drive G i changed the drive letter to F and that value didnt update therfor fallout couldnt reach the folder to save the preferences!

    hope this helps anyone else

Please post your specs, or fill the "My System Specs" tab. Fallout 3 should run on every W7 build.

    Cheers.

    Hello,
Fallout 3 runs very bad on my config in win7, everything fine in XP

    My specs:
    Win 7 build 7229 x64
GF 8600GTS (newest driver WHQL from nvidia)
    2GB RAM
    CPU: C2D 2.2Ghz

It just lags (even in menu), no matter what resolution or anything. Any ideas what can I do more?

Ok nevermind it was a problem with ffdshow...

Well, i think that sig should be good to run it, not sure about higher resolutions, but try consulting fallout 3 buglist, theres lot of fixes there:

Fallout 3 bugs - The Vault, the Fallout wiki - Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, and more

I wouldnt try to run Fallout 3 with a single core CPU and a 8500GT card. They are just not ment to paly games of this magnitude.

And flies , ure 8600GT isnt a good card either. I suggest a 4770 Ati atleast since u already have a good CPU, that GPU is dragging u down.

My Fallout 3 runs perfectly on all HIGH except ...... IT KEEPS CRASHING FROM TIME TO TIME !!!!!!!!!!! havent tried to see if it crashes with the new 9.6 ATI drivers ...

    Anyway gl
