I wouldnt try to run Fallout 3 with a single core CPU and a 8500GT card. They are just not ment to paly games of this magnitude.
I'd disagree. I havent had many if any crashes. I get about 34fps on average with my old beaten 8500GT, and my single core. its just ATI cards are junk, that is my (not so) professional opinion. i alway see people having problems with games, and gfx dependent apps (3dmax, e/g), and 8/10 they have an ATI card. i dont thinks it's just coincidence...

    ure wrong :))

Card manufacturers dont create their cards on what games are out, its the other way around. Game manufacturers make games depending on what cards are out and some manufacturers create games specially for 1 card manufacturer (Ex. Company of heroes is for nVidia or world in conflict, showing better fps then ATIs) but that dosnt mean they wont work on an ATI.

Anyway if its not a 9600GT/8800GT or 3870ATI the least i wouldnt try gaming with it. And ofcourse 2 cores atleast. And lol why play a game at LOW.

I`m not an ATI fanboy, i used nvidia since Geforce 2 Series. This is my 2nd ATI card ever, first being an x300 lol .Both are exceptional but latelly nvidia been sucking using same 8800GT design in the 200 series. The HD series from ati are completely different then its former 9600PRO etc cards.

I can play fine on medium... on high if I'm using XP.

I was just point out that, the ridiculous system specs that companies say you need, are usually false. It's like a scam if you think about it. Being the pessimist that i am, I personally can conclude that someone looking to get my money, is also very capable of lying through their teeth to get it. Which is usually the case.

oh and btw, the graphics are not what make the game 'good', developers who have actual imaginations do.

I've seen (and experienced) nvidia cards have their own fair share of problems

It comes down to driver support. ATI is just a bit more hit and miss than nvidia.

With the latest 1.6 patch, it seems that random crashes considerably decreased. I run the official expansions and a few other mods no issues so far.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I am having some issues getting Fallout 3 to start a new game. Everytime I click on New Game and "Yes" it begins to load as the radar is turning, then the radar stop, my CPU is at 100% and have to use the TM to exit the program. First off my current build.

    CPU: E8500
    GPU: GTX 260
    MoBo: P5N-D
    HDD: 1TB WD
    RAM: 8GB GSkill
    OS: Windows 7 RC1 64 Build 7100

I have read through this thread and this is what I have done thus far.

    A. Updated to the latest nVidia driver.
    B. Run both the Launcher.exe and the Fallout3.exe as *both* Run as Administrator and Vista(SP1 and 2)/XP (SP2 and 3)
    C. Updated game to version 1.6 from Bethesda site
    D. Checked my read write permissions for both My Documents and My Games, I have full access on my account but I am still getting the read-only box checked.
    E. Tried using TakeOwnership
    F. Installed GFWL 2.0
    G. Tried altering between windowed and fullscreen, low, med, high, ultra settings.
    H. Check my monitor settings which are at 60Mhz, 1280x1024

None of these had any effect on it at all. Same issue. Begins to load and then quits. Anyone have any suggestions?

have you tried adding Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncher.exe to the process exception in your antivirus. a few games have done that to me, and sometimes doing that helps.

Tried while having it in the exceptions list in my AV, even added Launcher and Fallout3.exe to the DEP list, still same issue.
