There are a couple of area's that I have determined it will crash if I go there, just can't remember which ones
Is it a copy you've got, as it use to do the same for me until I got a decent 5GB in size version, and have you got the 1.7 update?
Don't know the size as it's on DVD

Yes, fully updated to 1.7 UK patch

It's not as bad as it used to be, turning off desktop composition and setting to run in compatibility mode

A lot of these 'tips and tricks' shouldn't really be needed.

Any of you using cracked launchers etc?

I've been keeping an eye on this feed via e-mail, and I'm becoming quite interested in solving this issue(s). Providing I can make the time to do it.

I have a few questions I'd like to ask those whom are having the issues, the answers will help me move in on the first part of my investigation.

I'll get down to the bottom of the issues, one way or another!

You're right they shouldn't, but it is the case. I purchased GOTYE on Steam and expected to play it straight after it finished downloading and installed all the updates. Unfortnately it didn't work like that. It's a genuine version no cracks or dodgy downloads.

Yeah my fault, the first time I ran it I was greeted by a black screen, so I thought those options fixed it. Turned them off, and still works on my 64bit version now too.

    This game looks amazing
    FR3F4LL,
First of all, I am not a "computer guru", so all this computer language is jiberish to me. However, I DO know the basics and somewhat a little more, so I'm not computer illiterate. I am desperately trying to figure out why Fallout 3 will not work on my Windows 7 64 bit Dell. Installation runs smooth, yet it is the start up that bugs out. Into play screen plays and what not, but once i click "Play-New Game" it bugs and shuts down to desktop. It says "Fallout 3 had failed. yada yada yada." I can't find a fix anywhere. Any help from you is much appreciated. I would prefer an email if possible: Georgebelcheff@yahoo.com, however, I will be checking this as much as possible. Thank you.

Simple, that laptop has not enough balls for the game - intergrated graphics are simply not enough as is the Pentium.

OK, I load Fallout 3 and it seems fine. I click "New Game" and it gives me the message "Fallout 3 has failed" or something very similar. The game is on a new build with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home premium (a different machine than the one I'm currently using). I've updated to version 1.7 and get the same thing. Like one other guy said on here, I'm no computer guru but I can do a little more than the basics (very little, but I'm not a noob) and even understand a limited amount of computer gibberish. I built this rig specifically for gaming and video work and really wanted to play FO3. It loaded and ran fine on my old system with XP. God knows it can't be a deficiency in my hardware (except maybe the sound end). Help please.

Start by updating all your drivers including chipset and BIOS. Also make sure everything is connected right in your system. Finally run Memtest86+ and chkdsk - open up Windows Explorer for the latter, right click your drive, properties, tools tab, check now, tick both boxes, reboot.

    I just re-installed FO3 (non-GOTYE) + DLC and I haven't had an issue.

So I'm sorry to say, it does sound like a potential h/ware issue at this stage.
