I'm not sure why but Fallout now seems to work since I have installed 7068 32bit W7. The only issue remaining is that it will crash when exiting to the main menu but exit fine when just closing the game without going to the main menu first, if that makes sense.

EDIT: Even that is working fine now, so I'm happy to write that as yet the game is running fine for me.

This fallout 3 launcher crashed started me too after I installed latest chipset drivers on my M2N-SLI deluxe motherboard. Before it I had only fps eating problems.

I thought the advice was to remove the k-lite codec pack. FFDshow in particular...
No need to remove it, blacklisting fallout3.exe should be more than enough. I do think that switching the selected audio device off of my Xonar DX helped significantly, since that card NEVER liked FO3.

I'm 30 hours in with very few problems, aside from bad lag when using VATS.

Has anyone gotten Fallout 3 to work in x64 with a Sound Blaster X-Fi card?

I have it running perfectly with latest patch on Windows 7 x64 Build 7077 and an X-Fi soundcard :)

version 7077 solved all the problems I had. Not the game is on its normal behavior, i.e. crashing to desktop every now and then, but running fine otherwise.
