CALL OF DUTY 2 Windows7 issue!

Ok, I am having this issue with COD 2, it started with the Windows 7 RC and I thought it was because how I installed it the first time. (installed game and then copied my directory from my xp hard drive).

Basically I was getting bad ping spikes and I researched it and found that the cpu affinity for the COD2MP was set to 1 core! I can open task manager and select affinity and select all and the problem goes away! Of course the next time I run only 1 cpu core is selected!

So when I installed W7 from scratch I made sure to install the game and I tested it all 4 cpus used! Yeah! Then I installed the 1.3 patch! Wham, next time I ran it only 1 cpu core!! IS this part of the patch or is it just not installing right? I am tired of alt esc out of the game to set affinity!! ERRRRR!

    Please help!

Seems like the patch borke something instead of fixing it...

Contact the makers of COD2 and see if they can release a fix for what the patch broke

Does anyone else have COD2 installed on their Windows 7? If so can you check the affinity of the CODMP_s.exe from task manager please let me know if you get the same results.

I played it without changing the affinity and it wasnt as noticeble a problem since my fresh install (as far as the gameplay and ping) but it still makes a difference when enabling all 4 cores. Plus that one core works so hard when his friends dont pitch in!

    Solution

Its wierd that I am the only one having this issue, even others in my clan dont seem to have this problem. I have reinstalled COD2 from scratch, deleted the directory entirely once and it did not make a difference.

I pretty much have given up fixing this problem and instead of Alt Esc back to desktop to adjust the affinity I read about a program called set affinity II. They have a Beta 64 bit version and I installed it a few days ago. It boots with windows and can be used to adjust the affinity of any process, manually or automatically. I set cod2mp to run all four cores and anytime the game runs it makes the adjustment automatically. It works perfectly and can also be used to spread out single core apps or force them to multicore.

If anyone else has this issue, there is a solution for you. If someone else figures out another way to "fix" the problem, please share too!

Better FPS with dx7 and dx9 i presume

Installing Directx 9.0c via this link (dxwebsetup.exe) improved my FPS with 7900gt to usual constant 125 from 80Fps.

Oh, and i had the affinity problem too, fixed it with PRIO taskmanager

How did you get COD2 to work on Win7?

When I try to join a server my screen goes green and CTD.

    Sorry for being off topic.

You have tried that dx9. (to get DX7 mode properly atleast) There is no dx9 default in windows 7 i think. Anything else i just run normally. 1.3 version.

You can list servers to join ingame? you can start the game? Have you tried to run as administrator so that the game will use itīs installationfolder for new files etc? not the "virtualstore"

Also have you allowed it in firewall?

There is no DirectX default - 11 is backwards compatible with it as is 10.1. Either way most games now should be DirectX 10 minimum.

Here COD 2 works like a charm, no affinity problems or CTDīs (dual core, maybe itīs a quad related bug)
