Game crash to desktop Battlefield 2

Since the latest updates 12/11/2013 when I try to run Battlefield 2 the game loads and I am able to connect to my game account but when I try to join a multiplayer server OR start a single player game I get dumped to desktop. Before the latest Win 7 updates I had no problem running game. I reinstalled game and still have the same problem.
    System : AMD Athlon II X4 640 30ghz
    8 gig ram
    Nvidea Geforce GT 610
    Windows 7 home prem

Game ran fine before last to Win 7 Updates and all drivers are up to date.

    Check for GPU temperatures.
Install latest Nvidia drivers, and if you already did it and you have GeForce R331 drivers, rollback to 327.23 WHQL and do a clean install. R331 drivers have got some bugs.

If the problem isn't solved, check if you can play other games. Try lowering graphics settings in BF2.

You can also try to restore Windows: System Restore
select a system restore point which your pc saved BEFORE installing latest Windows updates.

All drivers are current and none of them have been changed from when the game worked till now. I installed windows 7 over 2 months ago yet when I go to system restore the only date available is today, 12/18/2013. I tried using the windows fix available for games that worked under a previous version but the it won't load at all. All other games are working properly. Video settings were set to low.

Reinstall drivers from Nvidia website. Reinstall the game again.

Run the game with administrator privileges and in Windows xp compatibility mode.

Windows shows only the recommended restore point, but have you clicked "show more restore points" in the menu?

Try to clean up your pc and your registry with "Ccleaner" (search it on google, it is an awesome freeware).

When the game crashes, does an error message appear?

Yes I clicked "show more restore points" it still only showed one for 12/18, I reinstalled drivers from Nvidea . Tried running with admin priv, cleaned registry. when using Windows XP compat game won't even load, get error message "mods/bf2/shaders/staticmesh.fx not found" (it does load and I get to picking server in multiplayer or selecting map in single player then zap to Desktop with no message in win 7 mode) Again, this game ran fine previous to last windows update of 12/11! Also ran Ccleaner-no help there

    Remove the latest Windows Update.

I had a similar problem with Darksiders where a Windows update broke the game and caused problems.

If installing a Windows update caused the problem remove the update and you should be back in business.

    How to uninstall updates:

Click the Start button, then Control Panel, Programs, and then under Programs and Features click 'View installed updates'.

Once you've got that open there will be a list of various updates. Scroll all the way to the right and click on the 'installed on' tab at the top to order them by when you installed them. Then, find the offending update, right click on it, and uninstall.

Once you do, turn off automatic updates if you use them and go with 'ask first' instead. You'll have to uncheck the offending update and manually install updates for a bit.

Just avoid installing the offending update, after a while it will be obsolete and you'll be able to use automatic updates again if you want them. You can also try installing it when a new update comes out and then uninstall it if the problem persists.

Thanks for your input, there were 9 updates on 12/11, I got lucky as it was the first one that caused the problem! Problem solved and I really appreciate the help I received here!
