I installed CSS on Windows 7 last night, and had the problem of it freezing the whole computer once the map had loaded.

I tried a couple of things to fix it, and it works fine now. I was playing for a few hours last night with no crashes at all.

First thing I did was remove cl_resend 2 from my config. This can crash your computer if you set it to 1 or 2 (on Vista, I had no problems running at 2), so I removed the whole thing from the config.

I also disabled SLI, as possibly SLI is still a bit buggy in Windows 7. After changing the config and disabling SLI, the game ran fine.

I haven't turned UAC off, and running hl2.exe for CSS as admin didn't work either, and I'm not running hl2.exe as admin at the moment, and it runs fine. If I did run the game as admin, I also got the "The game is currently unavailable" error.

HEY my CSS is still notworking... (
First step: go to ClientRegistry.blob - Steam Support Wiki
Try playing the game now, if it's still failing: Have you set all your graphic settings to minimal? just put everything off that can be shut off.
    Than try again.

    If its still crashing,

Tell me exact what is happening, maybe i could help you better.
i cant add any server in fvrts and i cant connect diect from console..
it says that Connection Failed After 4 retries (
    it happens with every server

    Solution

    Hey up guys.

Don't hurry to blame the lovely windows 7. I had the same problem with CS as you are having but when I downloaded the latest drivers from NVIDIA wesite everything is fine. I. e. I now can ran CS on the highest resolution (1680x1050) of my 22 inch screen on windows 64 bit OS. If you are using ATI graphics I'm sure there will now be latest drivers for 7 32 and 64 bits so please check.

Thats a problem with your gfx drivers, You also can not run CSS ad admin, Steam prevents it.

Hey, sorry for late response, and sorry for bad english

For low FPS in Windows 7, update your pc's BIOS to the latest version!

After update, it works like a charm for me, and a few friends of mine, so Good Luck tryin'! :)
