OK,after much head butting my lag seems to be all fixed.

Disabling network throttling did not help me, nor did disabling aero/other visuals in windows 7.

What did the trick for me was to open task manager, and set the Steam priority to low. So easy, yet so annoying when you don't know about it. After doing this, all lag in steam based games seems to have disappeared.

I actually made an account on this website to say how grateful I am that your method worked pinstripe. Seriously, great job figuring out the problem and I really appreciate being able to play my favorite game again. Thanks so much. Worked like a CHARM.

I'm glad that worked for you, but that article has a typo. Microsoft specifically mentions it is, in fact, 8 Fs. How to use the throttling mechanism to control network performance in Windows Vista. Thank you for noticing this, I will add this article to the OP and remove the one with the typo.

Thanks guys for the feedback that this is solving some problems!

Hi, I have the same problems that everyone else on here seems to be having, but I'm a bit nervous about editing my registry because my default hex value is a and my defualt decimal value is 10. which should i change?

The default HEX value is "a"? Are you 100% sure? I need to know so that I can restore mine back to default. Just in case.

None of these methods worked for me. Disabling my audio in device manager is the only thing that has worked.

I'm going to try the FFFFFFFF method again.

10 is default, it even says that in the How to use the throttling mechanism to control network performance in Windows Vista

anyway if 6 Fs is wrong, what did i then do? :O the The Bits 2.0 Disabling/Tweaking Vista’s Multimedia Class Scheduler also says that u can increase packets through per second from 10 (Default) to lets say 100 000. Dont know if that's a good thing though?

Cool. Thanks.

I still get LAG unless I disable my Audio in Device Manager.

"A" in hex is equal to 10 in decimal.

@qberty: I suspect you solved the problem by creating a really high limit of packets that could go through without being throttled.

@silverharrison: change the hex, that is the "a" you are seeing.

@Ozirus: Go back in and double check that there are 8 Fs in the registry entry, reboot. If there is still lag, try disabling the MMCSS service and see what happens.
