That is one reason I asked to see what is showing for all settings in the Audio.con. The X-Meridian is the only non X-Fi card (not counting Asus and their GX 2.0 hack) that can trick BF2 and BF2142 into thinking that a X-Fi is installed. I have a feeling the game is auto-detecting it as such and if it is, that could be the cause of the crashing when he tries to change it.

Windows 7 64bit

Ok, I've tried these things. But the problem is not my audio only. When I reinstalled the game, the first thing I did was try to go to a server. The game crashed. I don't think the problem is in the audio settings. I can loggin and go to the main screen, but when I try anything else, it crashs.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

hhmm, well let me just run down a list of checks here,
latest patch is loaded?
did you install the DX9 from the disc?
run a defrag on the system?
Do you have a swap file on the system and is it set to let windows choose a size? I find bf2142 works better with a set size swap.
I know im reaching for straws here but anything is worth a try right now.

Windows 7 64bit

Lastest patches- Done.
Defrag- Done.
DX9- Downloaded from disc and tried from download from microsoft. Done.
not sure what you mean by "swap". haven't done this.

One thing I did during install, which hasn't mattered during previous installs of this game, was I installed it on a seperate drive than my OS. Using an SSD drive for OS only. Extra 500GB drive for anything else. When i installed W7 I did a reformat of SSD. Does BF2142 have issues running on 64bit OS? When I installed Vista 64Bit, I had problems getting BF2412 to run. Switched to 32bit. Game worked after a few tweaks. I have read where other people have gotten BF2142 to run on 64bit.

windows 7

I had the same problem with my Windows 7 64 bit installation and Battlefield 2 where the game would cause the computer to freeze completely with a fast repeating buzzing sound. I had no problems at first with Windows 7 but then one day I enabled the US landscape theme and set it to automatically change the desktop background image every 5 or 10 minutes. This is when the freezing during game play started to occur.

The solution was to simply change the them back to the default windows 7 aero them with the windows logo in the middle. Ever since, no more freezing. I played BF2 for an hour straight with no problems, where as before I couldn't last for more than 10 minutes before I had to hard reboot my system. It took me a while to figure this out so I hope this helps.

Did you download just DirextX 9c from Microsoft, or did you get the Feb. 2010 redist that updates all DX versions?

If you only updated 9c, you may want want to grab this and run it: Download details: DirectX Redist (February 2010)

I ran 2142 on 64-bit Vista without issue and currently run it on 64-bit 7 without issue. I actually don't even have to run it as admin or in compatibility mode, so this one's a puzzler.
