I don't think my Maximus board have on-board audio as it's a high-end board that comes with an X-Fi card. Even so, I rather dual boot Vista and play games there. At the moment, 7 is a really bad idea for games. And it's not just me or the small part of the community, a lot of PC gamer friends I know who happened to clean/upgrade to 7 tend to have problems with their games one way or the other.
Strange because my friends that all upgraded to a clean install of W7 have had no problems at all with their games using either ATI or Nvidia gpus and I just picked up Dragon Age Origins and it installed and ran without a hitch on my "ancient" 3 year old computer....so don't give up on W7 yet

As I suspect, it might be the problem of my MB (hardware and BIOS). It might also have something to do my OCZ RAM. I tried installing older drivers as suggested by still got the same results. I might as well wait for my board to become "7 ready".

I'll agree that Gaming under Win 7 x86 or x64 is not stable. I've made all the above listed games at least start and play. I use Acronis true Image home 2009 to make restore images of my drive so that I can try diff versions of Direct X and drivers.
Vista X64 CD drivers for XFi card then 2 updates from creative worked awesomely.
used earlier version of RC Nvidia drivers from Nvidia Archive and installed DX 9.0c from
march 2009. As far as I can tell MS has locked out certian drivers from working in RTM that worked in the RC. 64 bit mode has always been a bit of a pain but you COULD make it work...NOT in Win 7... SOF 2 will not function in any compatibility mode. I'll continue to work this out and will post updates here.

Tech, I did exactly everything u did except for the Acronis part as I did a clean install of 7. Just to clarify, is 186.18 WHQL an RC driver?

    Windows 7 Ultimate X64 and SOF2 resolved

Windows Ultimate X64 & Soldier of Fortune 2 Gold

Im running Nvidia 195.62 drivers on a GTX-280 1 gb , Gigabyte EP45-UD3P MB, Q6600 SLACR w/ 8GB Ram,XFi Titanium pro w/ 64mb Xram, and finaly after several months of tinkering, the cure to my SOF2 Blues was as simple as changing Compatibility to win 98/me to make it work .

Im sure there must have been some compatibilty issues resolved from MS in Recent updates or Nvidia fixed their drivers. Only thing different in my system.
