Dell XPS Crashing on WoW Character Screen

past two weeks or so my Dell XPS L502x laptop has been crashing whilst playing World of Warcraft, at first it was just random, but now I can't even get past the character selection screen without it crashing. I've tried lots of different things, drivers, restoring my laptop, ran diagnostics (all said everything was working fine) so I don't actually know whats causing this problem.

Usually the laptop just completely freezes and the only way to fix it is manually holding the power down, but sometimes before this happens I get the "driver has stopped working and has recovered" which then a few seconds later leads into the system crash, but this doesn't always happen.

I thought it was because of the recent Nvidia driver and I spoke to someone at Nvidia, they suggested I went back to using a previous driver but got the exact same crash.

The laptop works completely fine on other things, browsing internet, watching videos. It's just World of Warcraft. I've re installed it which also didn't help.

Would very much appreciate any help anyone has to offer, I've searched the four corners of the internet trying to find a fix to this trying all sorts of things with nothing that actually works.

    Welcome to the Forums, Scruffy.

If the crash keeps happening, I recommend that you uninstall and reinstall it and see if that helps. But if you don't want to do that, here is a video on how to fix it (without voice-over).

I have also gone to the battle.net websites to find some crashing help, and here is a link to the battle.net website for crash help:
    https://us.battle.net/support/en/art...d-crash-errors

I understand that you can't do anything when the crash happens, but could you take a picture of it via a iOS or Android device and upload it to the thread? It would be a real help to see what the error is so I can get better help for you.

Hope the link and YouTube video help.

    Hey BlackSparrow

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I tried the methods you suggested, after changing my WoW and internet settings, went back to DX9, it took a while to log in, once I did log in after a few seconds I got the same laptop crash only this time there was a sound loop going with it which I hadn't had before.

I spoke to blizz and tried everything they suggested but none of it worked either unfortunately.

Could you take a picture of the crash pop-up so that way I can search around for some better help? That way we can fix the problem quickly.

It's fine for the quick reply, bad luck for blizz suggestions failing, but like I said just now a screenshot would help a lot. Just take it with your phone and upload it to the forum thread, if you need a tutorial on how to upload the screenshot I can send you one via Screenshots (since I'm at a computer now).

Usually it just freezes and says nothing, but I do sometimes get this message before it freezes. Sorry for the terrible quality

    It's fine.

I can't seem to find anything that can be of help, and I've searched around the battle.net forums and it won't show anything with your driver version 337.88. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if that helps, if it doesn't then I don't know what else I can help you with.
