Laptop PC Plays Myst V: End of Ages, Desktop PC Gives Stack Error

    1) Wife's H-P Pavilion laptop with Windows 7 Home Edition plays subject game with no problems.
    2) Wife's new custom desktop PC running Windows 7 Ultimate displays a Stack Error when attempting to open.
    3) Game installed from same disc on both computers: "Myst V End of Ages" Limited Edition. (PC/Mac "682837-DVD")
    4) The desktop PC runs well on non-game apps, but this is the first game install on this new PC.
    5) Installation went OK; no errors.
    6) Using Compatibility mode on desktop PC for XP does not help.
    7) Deselecting various checkboxes in Compatibility window does not help.
    8) Matching the Win 7 Compatibility modes between the laptop and desktop does not help.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    badger906,

Thanks much for your response. We had a copy of Myst5InitFiles.zip on a flash drive, due to a problem originally on the laptop. That did in fact fix the stack error on the H-P Pavilion which is why (I guess) it has been playing normally on that laptop. But we installed the same files on the desktop, and the same stack error occurs. Is it possible that on Win 7 Ultimate those files need to be in a different location, i.e. not in the Myst V folder?

    badger906,

Adding the "graphics.ini" and "audio.ini" files to the Myst V folder per the linked instructions didn't help.

THE REAL FIX: running the "MystV_vistaSP!.exe" application (inside the attached zipped folder) from our USB flash drive onto the desktop PC. Now Myst V opens normally on both the laptop and the desktop. (Note that the ".exe" file is in French... doesn't matter, still worked.)
