Mafia 2 fps limited to 20

    Hey all,

I am trying to run Mafia 2 which I played when it first launched on my GTX 480 SLI setup. I recently upgraded to GTX 970 and was considering to use one of the 480s as a dedicated PhysX card.

After installing 480 as second card, I launched Mafia 2. Ran the built-in benchmark with 970 as gpu+physx, 480 as dedicated PhysX and no PhysX at all. Even tried the 480 as gpu. Whatever I do, I get 20 fps Whatever is happening, it seems like there is some kind of frame limiting going on but I can't find where. I have MSI Afterburner (I heard it has the function) installed but haven't assigned any limit to fps, also not running it all the time anyway.

I tried some 3d settings in CP to no avail.

Remind you that this is a new OS install and drivers are up-to-date. Also performed clean re-install of NVidia drivers a few times too. Game is in Steam.

Appreciate any help with troubleshooting this issue.

    Thank you!

some people have had this issue, many have fixed it with re-installing physx, it needs to be the physx installer that comes with the game, should be located in x:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\mafia II\3rd party (X being your installation drive), run the installer for physx from there and see if it helps, if not, then try to switch back to CPU on the physx.

Seems the problem was an old version of x360ce which I used initially for Logitech G27 Wheels. :)

With the built-in benchmark I get:
    112 fps with PhysX off
62.6 fps with GTX 480 as dedicated, PhysX high - same fps whether using the PhysX version that came with the game (9.10.x) or latest drivers (9.15.x)
