Counter Strike 1.6 (steam) FPS problem

Ok, I have a BIG problem with FPS while playing CS 1.6 Steam, on Win7 64bit, my FPS drops to 40-50 which is unbelievable on my PC Configuration which is:

    AMD Phenom TripleCore @ 2.1Ghz
    ATI Radeon 4650HD
    4GB of RAM

I used to play it on XP (SP2,SP3) and it worked perfectly without dropping fps, it was between 99-101 even through several smokes (Smoke Grenades).

I tried the GameBooster aplication, tried adjusting PC to work for best performance, tried running it as a Administrator, running it on Winxp (both SPs) , tried with DEP and much more... But simple it doesn't help me!

    PLEASE help me somehow!

And yes, vsync is FORCED OFF!!

try this right click the steam client and then goto properties then click on compatibility tab. in this section try to disable desktop composition and visual themes.

    See if that helps.

I get this problem too, it fluctuates from 40~100 fps. I only notice the drop when I'm shooting 2~3 enemies, but when I move around with teammates, it stays at 100FPS. Is this the same for you?

I think it's caused by the recent update of the Steam engine because this didn't happen before. Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

I'm running Intel Q6600, Nvidia 8800GT, 4GB ram by the way.

I think its a mix of the steam engine and drivers for NICs, give them some time it all will wash out in the end.

I also have this problem with Counter Strike CZ.
    I'm running Windows 7 x64 on Intel Q6600, Nvidia 8800GT and 4GB RAM.

I ran the game on Windows XP (x86) and Windows Vista (x86) at 100FPS.
When I installed Windows 7 (x64) last week, CS ran at 100FPS.
I believethere was a Steam update yesterday. After this the FPS seems capped at 60 and I'm experiencing lag and a choke of 40 to 100. Also the sound is stuttering.

I already reinstalled Steam and downgraded Nvidia-drivers without success.

Larryman I would check you sound drivers and make sure they are up to date.

Larry, the 60FPS cap might be due to your vsync. Make sure you have it "forced off" in your drivers.
