    Bioshock fails to launch.

Hello everyone. I Just went out and bought Bioshock after seeing all the hype. Installed with no problems. but fails to launch and windows says its looking for a solution blah blah blah.

did a search but not one seems to have a problem with this game. All of my other games work fine.

also.. not sure if i updated my system specs profile but I put in a 1TB WD Caviar Black in it now. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Have you updated directx? Often games won't start unless you update that.

after typing 'dxdiag' in the command prompt the resulting windows informed me that i had directX 11 which is the latest verision correct?

    ::EDIT::

Uninstalled and reinstalled but failed at screen asking where to install shortcut icons because of an unexpected windows shut down. rebooted and then reinstalled and installation succeeded by same problem is present.

forgot to mention and update my system specs but 4gigs of the gskillz were bad so i sent them back. expecting them at the end of next week or the begining of the week after. at the moment i'm running on 1gig ddr2 running at 800mhz.

also tried to dl and run the directx end-user runtime but installation failed and said to check out DXError.log and some other file similarly named. ran a search and nothing came up on my machine.

    FIXED!!

Ok what I believe ultimately fixed the issue was removing a file from the registry that was associated with Gom Player:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

    Delete the value called msacm.divxa32.

    here's a direct link.

it worked for me i hope it will help others. at first the sound wasn't working then i set the compatability mode to windows xp SP2 and it worked. Thank you ainmer and everyone else who replied or considered this post!

Off to play bioshock.. its spokey to me tho... hA hA

If this is your first time playing it, you're really going to enjoy it. Great story. I've played the game 3 times and still very much enjoy it. Glad you got it working.

    Good luck.

go into the bioshock config file and make the resolution the same as your desktop resolution it will log you in.

then in the game change the in game resolution to your desktop resolution.

    fixed.

just for your info with 7 most of your games that use physx and dx 11 you will have to make them the same as your desktop resolution to benefit from the dx 11 and physx engine.

    just so you know.

    Save all the little sisters...

It really is a good story. I thougt the game environment, graphic, music, and story was great. If you're an action addict, this isn't your game, but if you love a great story, this is it.

I loved it and can't wait for Bioshock 2. I only hope they don't screw it up too bad.

    Glad you enjoyed it.

    Peace.

yes. graphically i wasn't all that impressed but i loved the theme and artwork. you really get that surreal sense WITH a 1950's feel. to put it another way... the setting was ahead of its time (1950's) but still very 1950ish. truly enjoyed it.

and yes its not a action game as you said. for action i get my fix with crysis (when its working). i'm thinking about getting Modern Warfare 2 on PC but all my friends have it on PS3 and so they keep telling me to go with the PS3, but i hate FPS games on console. joysticks suck for aiming.
