Console Versus PC (Joypad V's Mouse/Keyboard)

    Hi again :)

Recently my brother got a job in the armed police and he says there are a lot of gamers in his course etc. but he said something the other week which irks him and it surely does me.

He said that there are console gamers in his training that claim a joypad player could beat a mouse player and they genuinely believe this. Thing is, I remember reading about an event (maybe hosted by Microsoft?) where they actually pitted PC mouse and keyboard players against joypad users and the joypadders failed spectacularly, they even widened the scope if I recall and put mediocre M/K gamers against the best joypadders and they still had trouble.

Does anyone remember this article and who this event was run by? I've only found forum threads like versus battles types so far in my fruitless searches.

    Thanks in advance.

This is like the egg and the chicken debate or what is the best oil or the best exhaust for your motorcycle... tough spot to be in

Thanks Solar, the article I read was much more in depth though. At least now I have clarification that it was MS that hosted it (rumoured :)).

This doenst surprise me at all.
With all things beings equal, meaning the games running at the same settings, framerate etc ...

I dont see how anyone could be quicker with a joypad over a mouse/kb in a shooter. Unless maybe they has a advantage in regard to better knowledge of the maps or something.

I know myself, playing the same game both ways the Mouse/KB is so much easier and accurate. But certain games, like 3rd person actions games, say Tomb raider, I find the opposite to be true and prefer the Joypad.

What few are actually aware of. On the console they use autoaim. As long as you get the reticle within a set limit the autoaim will take over. Now with a keyboard and mouse, their is the possibility for autoaim, but it tends to be off by default or much smaller limit then what is on the console.

The amount of skill required to aim on a console versus a computer is much lower. This is one reason they don't have cross-platform matches in the likes of Call of Duty or Battlefield.
