Windows 7 Ultimate x64

To Clarify. Windows 7 does have a nifty XP mode that will allow older programs to run. HOWEVER....(to make a long story short) the aforementioned XP mode cannot fully use your video card (at least not enough for high-end games).

So you cannot use the XP mode for Serious Gaming.
My suggestion: Go with Win7 x64 and:
1. most games will play fine, most with small tweaks or patches
2. Other games might need some serious patches (or windows patches) to play properly. As more and more people go to Win7 x64 you will see these patches in the near future.
3. Dual Boot with XP. (for now)-- ONLY do this if you find you cannot play a must have game on Win7 x64.

Another Suggestion I have. It SEEMS like most of the problems (but not all) that people are having with games are when they do an "upgrade" (as opposed to a clean install).....And/or... they "keep" their old game folders and move them over to the new operating system (hoping to save their games and settings). It SEEMS like this causes a fair number of problems.
So... Just do a Clean Install of the games and start fresh.

The future is x64. It has been a long time coming, and now it is here. The game and hardware developers will be catching up soon enough.

AND...You gotta admit.... A nice clean install is....SEXY!!!

Concerned about bots
Recently I have received numerous calls from someone claiming to be from the Windows Support Team. I have always hung up on them because I suspected they were phishing. However, the last call said that my PC was being taken over and used as a bot. Has anyone else been receiving these calls?

Laptop CPU above 88 C but under 50% load? Concerned?
I have an Asus laptop. A lot of things have been faulty with it. One stick of RAM went bad and then the HDD went bad. I replaced the HDD but never ended up buying a new stick of RAM. I left only 2GB in it on 1 stick. I don't know if this makes any difference but I think it's worth noting. ...

Locking Up When the Internet is Concerned
For the past few weeks I've been having issues with explorer.exe locking up every so often. The first sign of trouble is when the icon for the strength of the signal in the notification area stays at 5 empty bars with an unmoving blue ring imposed over it. Clicking on the icon causes explorer.exe...
