As long as both the Steam client and MW2 is 32-bit, this shouldn't be a problem. The OS in itself being 64-bit shouldn't matter.
Removing MW2 was pretty fast, but the installation may take some time, about 20 minutes. When the installation started from the DVD, Steam client took over and runs the installation. There's no option for selecting the installation folder or the default language for that matter. All it asks if I want to install it and then it takes over. That's maybe because of the language of the OS or the Steam client used as default.
I do hope that the reinstall will fix this.
Well, reinstalling it didn't fix anything; the resolution did change to 800x600 but probably not by the installation. I was clicking around in the control panel trying to find the primary fire key; the left mouse click moves the guy backward at the current time. I am pretty much lost with this one and will take it back to the store if IW or Valve cannot fix it.
Here's the image after reinstalling MW2:
Well, opening a tech support ticket with IW does not seem promising; quote from the reply:
Why doesn't it give a warm a fuzzy feeling.... Steam is even worse, they don't even assign a case number. I guess they really don't care much if someone has issues with paying a legitimate game. Man, I am envious of the hackers who don't care about being legit...The answers to the following questions may be relevant to your question:We are experiencing a high volume of web submissions. Probably why a console version is easier, but where is the fun of struggling with apps?
I swear this looks like some sort of language issue. I know it's a long shot, but have you ran the game in safe mode?
I have no idea how ATI/AMD works as I have always had Nvidia/Intel but, it is recommended to first uninstall the video drivers and then run a registry sweeper to get rid of the remmants of that installation... did you do this?
Most people just go ahead and install the newer drivers on top of the old one and some corruption may appear because of this.
Did you also checked that your monitor drivers are up to date and/or compatible with the OS?
First things first, Modern Warfare 2 is a fantastic game, it's near perfect BUT IWnet is far from perfect, if this game had dedicated servers I'd happily have unprotected sex with it and make strange disk shaped babies.
Current problems with IWnet and MW2:
- Joining with a large party is extremely troublesome, more often then not a member of your party with get disconnected from the host, get kicked because the game is for low ping players only or countless other errors.
- If you're playing in a party and the game tries to merge lobbies there's a big chance one of your party members will be kicked.
- IWnet makes strange host choices, quite often you get stuck with a host who can't give anyone more then 3 - 4 bars (10 bar setup @ 20ms per bar)
- IWnet fails to migrate host more often then not, sometimes it says "No suitable host available" when I'm in the game able to host and keep everyone at a green ping.
- Iw4mp.exe crashes often when trying to join a game.
- The game has random lock ups, small 1 - 3 second freezes during multiplayer, many users are also reporting green, black or pink "matrix like" effects covering their screen for a few seconds.
- Users are reporting losing their multiplayer rank after a PC crash.
- Rank hack is available and working, I've seen at least 10 max prestige players so far (usually at the bottom of the scoreboard)
- Aimbot/Wallhack are currently available and undetected by VAC.
- You can't type in the lobby.
- Games often start with unbalanced teams.
- When a player leaves mid game more often then not a replacement isn't found for him so the game stays with uneven teams.
- No team balance, if your team loses a player you can expect to be outnumbered the rest of the game.
Anything I've missed?
