According to Wikipedia, IW is strongly considering allowing dedicated servers again...apparently nobody is happy.

Still, I don't think it justifies a rating of 90 for this game when the console versions get a 96. I mean, it's one thing to send a message, but the game looks, sounds, and controls better on a PC. That is just fact.

The single player is absolutely amazing, BTW. And that's what I buy it for. I have no interest in the MP. For me, the best MP war game is still Battlefield 2. Nobody has come close to beating it as far as open, balanced, large scale online warfare is concerned.

There is one word in that line that just kills all forms of a dedicated servers showing up anytime soon.
Anyone could have sent that into Wikipedia that has been proven again and again.

The bad language thing can actually be interpreted as "ability to get rid of troublemakers"...and that is a valid issue for me and my Clan.

We all know the type - they show up and start baiting people...taunting them with in-game typing, intentionally blocking doors, and harassing other players on their team with a wide range of other negative behavior. Perhaps they weren't hugged enough as children, but it happens. On my Clan's dedicated servers, we give them a warning...then a kick...then a temp ban...and finally a perm ban. On MW2, you are stuck...and if you decide to leave a game because they are bothering you, you will lose all the points that you accumulated in that map since the "host" does not upload points to IW.Net until the end of the map.

I have to come clean, I bought the dang thing. :) Someone in my Clan had to so we could check it out. Turns out that two of us did it...and the IW.Net thing is actually worse than I imagined. It's just about impossible for the two of us to hookup and play together...at least without extensive coordination. If I launch Steam and see that he is playing, I right-click and try to join his game and *always* get "server is full." Of course it's full, because team deathmatch on MW2 is just 6 vs 6 players...and the server fills up all six slots on both sides when the game starts. It does not leave a couple open for friends to join other friends...and folks tend not to disconnect midstream because of the aforementioned penalty.

The only way that we can hookup is if one of us "Steam chats" the other and tells them to drop out of their current game...and take the penalty. We then have to jump through a couple hoops to get on the same server elsewhere. No idea how we would get a third person in. Sure, we could create a private server...but we don't want that...because it would be a tree falling in a forest. How the heck would the dozens of other folks with whom we routinely play know about it? Yeah, more Steam coordination I suppose....for up to 12 people max for TD.

What we really want is a place that we can go to join up and play with friends and have folks come and go as they please. We have that with all other versions of COD. We have dedicated servers that at any given time have 20 or so folks on them...including 5 to 10 clan members. You can always go there and drop right in and play with other folks who you know...in an "idiot-free" environment. :) No hassle and you are with friends and well-behaving guests who often become friends.

I could pick the MP and SP game apart for hours after using it, but my biggest criticism is that MW2 rips the heart out of any sense of a gaming community that you may be a part of...and frankly, that is a showstopper for me. I'm not sure how console folks have dealt with this for so long. I suppose it's because country mouse has never been to the city...but after you have been part of a gaming community, it's tough to be slung around between random servers like so much fodder...and deal with 12 year-olds exorcising their demons (or sowing their oats) by harassing other players with impunity.

Your mileage may vary...but I suggest that you save the 60 beans for Bad Co 2.

It's ridiculous how badly they destroyed a game that could easily have set precedents and records and tripled their companies reputation for creating solid amazing games.

The game was literally the single most anticipated game of the century thus far with pre-orders and information on the net. And they messed with a winning combination just to try and milk it for more money.

I hope they get what they deserve, and I hope that they do allow mods and dedicated servers eventually. Otherwise I continue to boycott this game. No leaning (who takes this standard ability away? next is no crouching or prone), no playing with groups of friends, no actual warfare (6v6 is not war, it's guerrilla insurgents at best), no mods, no custom maps, and honestly just no love for the pc.

Hell, since Halo 1 or even before I can't remember, the only way to truely play ANY multiplayer is hide the minimap, increase damage, and decrease the amount of grenades, noob tubes, tanks, planes, dogs, whatever. That way you actually get to play a fun skillful game. Not just try and collect points spawning throwing a nade and dying again.

Everyone gets testy with me on COD boards when I say this but IW invented the perfect WW1 FPS. Just replace all the modern weapons with single action rifles, have trenches and then people can camp on 2 sides of the map and try to shoot one another from the trenches.
I get called names even though that's how most of them play this game...lol

I do wish they'd allow more nades though I'd give up my primary weapon for 35 or 40 nades, then if you get killed myrtdom throws out all the nades you don't use and they explode instantly...lol

I read on their twitter feed that they probably will patch the game to allow dedicated servers. If they don't I know there are guys coding it for their own mod just in case.

    Source!!!!!

I want to see that. Because their Twitter (while not 100% definite obviously) is still more of an actual chance than Wikipedia since it can be editted by anyone.

Edit: and your first 2 paragraphs seem a bit far fetched. So maybe I am being trolled here. But still.

This is why I'm switching to console gaming for now. No activation, no extra crapware when you install the software, no windows issues.

It sounds just like the people who get bent out of shape over Left 4 Dead 2 coming out a year after the first one.

EA Sports gets away with complete BS EVERY year. Every one of their sports series is basically the exact same game, year after year, with a couple new features, tweaks, and updated rosters. And nobody bitches about boycotting the next version of Madden. In fact, people actually line up to get the latest version at midnight, ditch work, and even hold televised tournaments.

I finally finished the game took 3 days and I wasn't able to read a single line of text but it was still fun to play. Just wish I could hit the right buttons and make multiplayer work...lol
