I read a very long time ago that upnp was a bad thing . i downloaded and ran an app called universal plug and pray from the shields up website https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

still to this day i have upnp disabled according to that app yet i can still run cod mw2 so i am a little confused , i did however open my NAT it was previously set to strict and gave me issues getting into games , again im told this is a security issue but at the end of the day if i get stung its my own fault , the chances of it happening though are pretty slim imo
See the problem with this is GRC wrote the article and program back when UPNP was first created. I do believe things have been changed around on how it works now. Im going to have to look into it tho.

Unfortunately, there isn't much changed with the UPnP since the GRC article. While it is most certainly beneficial for end users with limited network knowledge having the devices/applications auto configure themselves, its security risk is just as real as it has been. The risk can be offset with utilizing layered security; however, for most end users that can be beyond their capabilities.

As long as the end users knows the application that utilizes dynamic port forwarding, or PAT, the UPnP can be useful and secure at the same time. If there's any malicious software, Trojan, worm, viruses, etc, that opens a hole in the router/firewall using UPnP, the end user has more serious issues than enabling UPnP on the router/firewall.

The IWNET will not show all the available game when the UPnP is disabled on the router/firewall and in addition, it prevents the computer in question to become the host for the online game as well. This is not perfect and IWNET can select the computer to be the host; on which case the game will never start and seems to be hung. Keep in mind that even with UPnP disabled, or strict mode, some inbound connection is still possible to the computer that can "fool" the IWNET servers. This is not something that other players will like but on the flip side, they'd never know what happen and blame the IWNET servers.

I just finished MW2 yesterday on win7 x64, had absolutely no problems running the game, man the game was really short just like MW1.. Hopefully MW3 would be much longer than this -.-

If was going to bitch about a game and a company, it would be Valve's "Left 4 Dead 2". They basically sold us L4D a year ago, told us they'd be adding new maps, characters, weapons, and monsters for free, and then repackaged said freebies and sold them to us AGAIN at full price a year later and called it a sequel.

Oh just wait, the rants will start soon on that one. The reason everyone is so bent on MW2 is due to the C.O.D. fan base that extends so far back and the online "clan" bases you have with it. L4D has only been out a year, if it had been out for years and had the same base at COD the uproar would be louder.
To me L4D was a test to see if people would buy/play also seemed way too rushed out the door leave tons of stuff not added. So when people bought and played and wanted more they took the stuff left over not used added some other things and pushed that out the door. I wouldnt be shocked to see L4D3 next year. I just had a thought that L4D will become like Pokemon every year another game, doing the same thing. Ok I did my rant...

I agreed with you Hanksta, until I played and bought L4D2.

Left 4 Dead 1 was sort of its a pioneer. There hadn't been anything like it. So it makes sense that they didn't spend the extra cash in the beginning to prepare for upgrades to servers and other hardware IF the game took off.

That's why they couldn't implement like 90% of the new L4D2 features in L4D1.

Left 4 Dead 2 is an amazing game. It has everything we asked for from L4D1. Pretty much EVERY complaint the L4D community had, was addressed and fixed or at least balanced for their 2nd game.

Yes it sucks it wasn't capable to implement it into L4D1, and it sucks we had to wait. But my god, it is a beautiful game. Graphically, Gameplay wise, Balance, Competitively. It exceeds everything we imagined. And it excels because the company listened to its customers, and improved hugely from 1.

MW2 didn't listen to its customers. It tried to get new ones and make their game more Wii like so that "Anyone of any skill level" can play. They went for advertising and a wider customer base, instead of focusing on making the game better as to attract more customers on its own.

Instead of listening to the community and adding features from MW1 and making sure that they were always progressing, they decided to go a whole new direction completely ignoring all of our input.

Valve and L4D listened and tried to make their game better according to our wishes. They couldn't because of shoddy hardware and because they didn't anticipate the popularity of the game.

Infinity Ward and MW2 CHOSE to change things and ignore customer suggestions. They wanted to try a new angle. They hoped they were making progress. And I think it is still going to bite them in the butt.

acctually, i believe they did listen quite a bit. but dont you find it funny that the manual says there is a console? and that you can take screen shots? not to mention that they took so long to announce IW.net. i think it was tacked on last minute and they had no choice because of the higher ups from Activision, just what i am thinking
