minecraft pc version LAN connected game

I purchased MC latest version from mojang with 1 registered account. I installed on my desktop and laptop. i want to be able to launch the game then OPen to lan option. I launched the game on laptop and tried to connect to the LAN game on the pc but cant i always get user already used does that mean i have to have 2 different accounts to just connect on LAN. i do not want connect via WAN. also does Minecraft need java installed? how do i setup MC on the desktop to play locally?

you will need two accounts to play together, you will also need Java installed on both computers to run minecraft (i'm assuming it's already installed as you have an error connecting), you could try signing out of one computer, apparently demo mode allows LAN players, but i'm not sure on the limitations of that, demo mode stops allowing interactions for the environment on singleplayer after an hour and 40 minutes, not sure if it applies to LAN players.

i will test that but i would think DEMO mode would have limitations.

I downloaded and installed the demo for a friend's son today. It says in the website that you don't need Java. However, I am not sure if LAN game is possible. One game lasts 100 minutes as mentioned and demo is valid for 5 days.

You'll need Java if you want to play the game in the browser.

Well, usually if you want to play on 2 PCs, you have to buy 2 copies. This is true for majority of games/software. To clarify/consolidate info: You don't need Java to run the exe client. You will need Java in order to play from a web browser.

There seems to be a way to play an offline LAN game, I am not sure if this is still valid. It doesn't hurt to try:

This method still works. Tested it out with a friend a few hours ago.

You do need Java to play on the desktop version, the EXE file is called javaw.exe, the ingame f3 screen tells you which version of java you're running :
