win 7 updates and Flightsim 2004 kills game

Hi all, Win 7 updates in Sept. 11, of 2015 kill Flight Simulator 2004. This is the original CD required version. In order to play the game I had to delete all the updates of that date. Clicking on the Game Icon did nothing until updates were removed. I don't know which update causes the game not to start. It can not be all of them but one. Does anyone know which update might be the cause. It may have to do with the game CD requirement. Your help would be much appreciated. I would really like to install the updates without killing the Flight sim game. Regards Peter

Reinstall the updates (because most of them are needed), and follow the instructions for running the game in post #4 of this thread:

FIFA 14 doesn't work after Windows reinstall

I can't remember the number of the update right now, but one of the updates in September last year borked the SECDRV copy protection scheme, rendering older games that use that form of copy protection unplayable. Microsoft sees SECDRV as a security threat.

The instructions I posted will allow you to turn on and turn off SECDRV, allowing you to play the game and restore Windows to normal when you're finished playing. I made two batch files for my older games and keep them on the desktop. One for before the game, and one for after.
