Log-in with Admin privileges for COD?

So its a lazy afternoon and I decide to install COD (the first one). No issues during the install. However when I start the game I get this message:

Log-in with Admin privileges for COD?-capture.png

Weird. I am the admin for this PC. Uninstall and reinstall with 'run as administrator'. Start the game but get the same error message...

What's up. Worked fine last time I tried it (admittedly some years back) on this very same PC...

Starting with Vista logging with an admin level account does not by default give you full admin rights. You only have the rights of a standard account and must request full rights when needed. "Run as administrator" is one way of doing that. This is a security measure, one which is often quite effective. It is possible to give yourself full time admin rights but this is not recommended and I will not go into the method.

As I said, I had already checked 'run as administrator'. No dice.

I'm open to other methods. And I wouldn't mind hearing why something that worked before doesn't work now...

It might be the copy protection. Microsoft issued an update last September that broke some kinds of copy protection. There is a workaround. See the following thread and follow the directions in post #4:

FIFA 14 doesn't work after Windows reinstall

I suggest making two batch files and placing them on your desktop. One to start the fix, and one to end it. You will have to execute the batch files as Administrator, or else type the commands into an elevated command prompt. This technique should work for most older games affected by the patch.

Are you using original CD (or DVD) to install the game.
For some games that come with the CD, it required to have the CD in the optical drive to start.

Also there should have a Serial Number on the Disc itself.
Most Games come package in DVD with serial number.
If you install without DVD, this is the problem.
As for administrator mode, it will let you install, but do not allow to start.
I would say that this "Administrator.." may a bit misleading, as it will not mentioned as 'need to activate'
Try to Install with the Administrator right, which may also failed.

I do have a game that allow me to install, but required the disc come with it, to start playing.
I even use to clone the original CD, but still failed to start.
Later i found out that certain portion of the CD is purposely marked a damage &or scratch, as clone will failed.
In my country Library, it do have the CD with the License / Serial Number stated clearly on the box.
Somehow, some games are removed, but others still available to install.
